• Hi Guest !

    Welcome to the 500Eboard forum.

Since its founding in late 2008, 500Eboard has become the leading resource on the Internet for all things related to the Mercedes-Benz 500E and E500. In recent years, we have also expanded to include the 400E and E420 models, which are directly related to the 500E/E500.

We invite you to browse and take advantage of the information and resources here on the site. If you find helpful information, please register for full membership, and you'll find even more resources available. Feel free to ask questions, and make liberal use of the "Search" function to find answers.

Harry's Garage

For those of you who may struggle to find the video:

This example was owned by a well known UK collector called Danz Benz, this was his only 500E and will be for sale at the Hairpin Company (very prestigious dealer) over here. It's a ~60k km car as Harry mentions in video, so definitely a split minter.

They don't come about here often, but certainly one of the best, if not THE best 500E for sale as of recent. The video is also brilliant and worth a watch (despite the fact that Harry does get quite a few things wrong during his drive)...

And for those of you who may not be familiar with Danz Benz's collection (now majority sold through Iconic auctioneers)...

Some very special cars including a few other W124s besides his 500E.

I think it remains to be seen if this is indeed "one of the best, if not THE best for sale rrcently"?
To be picky, from the video one can see it's not entirely original - a non standard steering wheel has been fitted, and the radio is not original.
Before getting carried away, let's wait to get the full detail from Hairpin (not always known to totally accurate), and then maybe one of our friends from across the pond could do a punch list on it?

Do you know the seller? It seems he is shifting a lot of cars - as you mentioned the Iconic auction last weekend and this 500E. I guessed the dark coloured one was also his but from what you say it isn't.

He auctioned an ex-Moss R129 which hit £28K but the reserve was £40K.

The Iconic auction descriptions mentioned The Stuttgart Collection not a private collection unless that is what he calls himself.

Yeah as mentioned above, the seller is Danz Benz (Danny Lucas) that’s his ‘alias’ and he had a private ‘museum’ collection called the stuttgart collection, somewhere in Kent.

The black one does not belong to him from what I know, that’s just another one soon coming up at Hairpin so they also gave Harry that one to present.

If you watch the Late brake show video I linked, you’ll notice a lot of the cars from iconic, and the 500E in Harry’s video.

The video is a walk around of majority of the cars in the Stuttgart collection.

He slowly sold dribs and drabs of his collection about a year ago through dealers like Edward hall, but it seems like he’s sold the remainder of his cars through iconic and hairpin.

Yes, I know of him his base is near Sevenoaks which isn't far from me.

I saw his Late Brake Show car museum episode when it came out but hadn't realised he was selling off his collection until I saw the R129 for sale recently then looked at more of the lots and recognised them - not that I could afford any of it anyway :)

This car is now being advertised by The Hairpin Company in the November issue of Classic and Sports Car. No price given! The car still isn't featuring on the Hairpin website, so unfortunately no link to post at the moment. If and when I spot in on their website, I'll post a link - in the hope that someone will do a hit list on it!

The reason I'm puzzled is because the car reviewed by Harry's Garage - a 500E (but not a LTD) - and which was said by a member of this board to have been owned by Danz Benz, and which would be for sale by Hairpin), doesn't yet seem to have appeared anywhere "for sale" ?

An E500 has now appeared on the Hairpin Company website - but it is not the one featured here! It's a Limited, similar mileage (60k), with what appears to be similar history, and is priced at £90k. Strange coincidence?

This is another car altogether. The funny thing is after reading the blurb I’ve realised this is a car I nearly purchased but lost the opportunity when it was advertised for c £30k at Sytner Nottingham in April 2017. Unfortunately I was too late and another buyer beat me to it - simply could not get to Nottingham from London and it sold by the end of that morning. I was gutted.

Think this has sold there before, remember seeing it in April 2023 (I don't remember the number plate but it was definitely an L reg) at hairpin for £65k at the time if I remember correctly.

Fairly certain it's the same car as Hairpin do seem to repeat sales and car rings a bell.. But don't quote me on that. :nobmw:

Rare Mercedes-Benz E500 Limited for sale

Yep.. Thought so, they had this car early last year too; it’s a lovely one 😛

Now I'm confused. Harry's Garage's youtube car is certainly a completely different 036. So far I'm with you. About the car in your picture in the quote above (with the non-original wheels): are you saying this is the car Sytner Nottingham had sold in April 2017 for plm £ 30K? The advert text for the Hairpin Company states (in 2023 and in 2024) that their car (with registration plate L753NMJ) was also sold in 2017 by Sytner. Are you saying that Sytner was selling 2 different silver 036's in 2017? Or are you suggesting that these 2 cars are in fact the very same Ltd?

Same car IMO - which means the Hairpin car used to wear Brabus rims in 2017. Either that, or Sytner had two E500 Limiteds in 2017, very thin chance of that happening but I suppose it’s not impossible. A HPI check could be performed to clear this up as the plate number of the car I was due to buy, was K1KRS in 2017.

If someone (in the UK?) could do that, that would be great (just for future reference for when this car turns up later). Unless you have kept some more pics at the time, particularly of the interior of the car you were looking at. Also, do you remember the mileage back then? If these cars were the very same, that means that a £ 30K car (sold in 2017 with a mileage of 94,374 km) would have appreciated in value to £ 90K now (having a reported mileage of around 100K km)

Unfortunately I only have that one photo taken by a friend of mine. Anyone can do the check, for example via car vertical or any of the UK HPI checks. If I had a subscription I’d do that, but saving pennies for 036 NLA parts to keep my own E500 Limited going 😁

In this months issue of the Mercedes Benz Club Gazette.

One of two for sale at the Hairpin company, this is the one in Harry’s video.. 👍🏽

Along with the nautic blue pre facelift they have too.

Unfortunately the pictures come out in pretty terrible quality, or at least it shows to have on my mobile.

Click it and should be fine. Price is POA (like practically everything over at Hairpin)

I wish I could keep up with my reading. I binged a load over the last couple of weeks and I finished November 2024’s Gazette last night. Only 3 months behind now 😀

Does that SEC have wood veneer on the outside?
