Hi 500E family.
I'll spare everyone with a long sad story, and provide the CliffsNotes for context, as I probably have an unusual or unfavorable desire here...
Back in late 2018, my 500E sat inoperable for a few days while I tried to replace a stuck ignition switch. While the car was inoperable, my area suffered a flash flood, and the car was partially submerged in floodwaters. While the car suffered no engine / mechanical damage (still runs as great as she did before the flood!), as I was in the middle of replacing the ignition switch, my driver seat was in the most rearward position, with my steering column in the most extended position. Needless to say, they're stuck there.
Given the circumstances, I decided to replace everything from the dashboard down, including the seats. Removing the stuck passenger seat wasn't too difficult, as thankfully it was in a position where the bolts were accessible. Unfortunately however, removing the driver's seat was excruciating, as the rear bolts were completely inaccessible. To make an even longer story short, I ended up shattering the seat base in order to remove the seat.
I know the V8 cars have different seat bases than I6 cars. Since I destroyed the seat base for the drivers side, swapping bases isn't an option for me.
As a temporary solution to make the car [practically] drivable again, I'd like to install some aftermarket seats. I was eyeing this set from corbeau.
corbeau.com
Does anyone have any guidance on installing aftermarket seats in our cars? Not so surprisingly, I can't find anyone who actively offers a pre-fabricated seat mounting brackets. Am I going to have to find someone capable of fabricating custom seat brackets? Any one here ever do that and provide some feedback?
Bonus Question: How can I begin troubleshooting the telescopic column?
Thanks everyone.
