This is the first post from a new member on this outstanding forum! i have recently bought me a "new" enthusiast car a -94 E420 Sportline to replace my -86 300E manual with. I have long looked for a E500E but after som horribly bad examples i found this E420 in good condition. I love the V8 and it (and the E500E) feels like a totaly different car from other W124s.

The car i equipt with:

My plan is:
Big service
Change the wiring harness
some minor paintjob
Sportline emblem om fenders and on gearknob
Maybe other exhaust for more V8 sound

Thanks! In my opinion are M119 the best engine MB have done. It comes in so many different models. Just love it

Hi Johan, good to see yet another Sweede, where are you situated? Another 744, I really like the 400/420 more and more, slim and stealthy they are.
The 500 itself is outstanding but now it seems the 034 is taking up lost ground and not everyone can have an 036, please don't do anything foolish
w it keep it as oem you can, I mean you and the car will not gain from too much modding, very nice indeed I have to say, almost a 500, almost,,Roger

Hi Roger and thank you for that. I am situated in Gävle so i live pretty close to you. The 420 will stay original. Why destroy a masterpeace? . The only thing that bothers me is that the stereo isn´t original. Maybee i find a original EXQUISIT some day.

I se that you have a E420 6.0AMG!! Do you have some more info on it! That must be a hell of a nice car to drive.

All W124 V8's have a dull exhaust sound IMHO, more like a vacuum cleaner due to the S-class mimics. Just a bit deeper sound to state the power suits these cars very well. But this is an individual taste of course.

Vacuum cleaner,,,HOW DARE YOU ??!!!......J/K

No really, its muffled but a special sound non the less; especially The acceleration from standstill. You get a pure V8 sound when you de-cat!

If you want to hear a boring V8, my 2007 E500 before the Brabus exhaust was soooo quiet you would fall asleep driving +200km/h.
Sounds like electric motor.

Or if you want to stay legal and environmentally friendly, remove the mid resonator and stick Y pipe straigh to back box. I found this to be just right, unintrusive and no drone but you get that nice V8 burble at idle. Oh and the sound at take off/full throttle turns head !

I personally like the "huh?" look at 4000 rpm more. And then the "wait, what?" at 5000 rpm, and finally the "WHEN THE HELL WILL IT STOP REVVING" look at 6000 RPM!

It sounds like there is some alternatives to get a more powerfull sound from that wonderfull masterpeace. I got som thinking to do during the winter!

I would suggest not using a sport muffler like Remus or Eisenmann. Yes its the proper high quality stuff, but you want to hear the natural engine sound not "artificial" exhaust sound.

Work on the Cats and the middle resonator instead to free out the V8 sound
