Just picked up a 119.972 to swap

Actually, it came wrapped in a 1995 SL 500 that had been abandoned at a shop with 123,000 miles on it. It does power up, but does not crank over currently, but the shop assured me that it ran and drove when it got there in 2018. we will see lol nonetheless, are the wiring harness is the same? I haven’t gotten a code on this one but my suspicion is that it is original. I’d rather use my updated harness if possible. The SL also has ASR, and my car does not. I would assume that I can swap the 4.2 throttlebody actuator over to the new 5 L engine? I already have a newer rebuilt sun valley 400e trans- is there a pro/con to using the sl500 trans? Ideally I’d like to swap over my eight rib pulley system, to work with my new AC compressor. Is that possible on the 119.972 from the 119.975? Is there any programming necessary on these LH module? I also plan on a full exterior reseal and checking of the timing chains and guides in the process.

Thanks in advance.

129 harnesses and 124 harnesses are not the same, and AFAIK are not interchangeable. Yes, you swap your non-ASR ETA onto that engine. Use the LH module and EZL from the 5.0 system. No programming required, modules should match engine displacement; non-ASR ETA needs your original T/LLR module.

I would NOT retain the 8-rib belt unless you absolutely have to (or, convert to automatic tensioner with 8-rib, search the forum for details on how to do this). I believe you can swap the AC compressor pulley/clutch to change your new compressor to a 6-ribber.

Nice score, you'll like the upgrade! Do you already have lower diff gears? 2.65 or 2.82 will really wake up the car along with the 5.0, unless you want to make it a freeway bomber with the 2.24's for ultra-high-speed cruising.

:jono:

@Quick4door, as for the 6-rib vs. 8-rib belts. I replaced the AC compressor on my exLimited (with the 6-rib setup), but the Denso compressor I ordered per the VIN came with a 8-rib pulley. But the vendor told me to run the belt on the inner 6 slots, and it hooked and ran as intended. I think I read somewhere that it is a slight difference in diameter on the 6-rib vs. 8-rib pulley..? However, that was picked up by the automatic belt tensioner in that case, maybe that can be adjusted with the manual belt tensioner as well in case you run that setup.
