Since its founding in late 2008, 500Eboard has become the leading resource on the Internet for all things related to the Mercedes-Benz 500E and E500. In recent years, we have also expanded to include the 400E and E420 models, which are directly related to the 500E/E500.
We invite you to browse and take advantage of the information and resources here on the site. Also in the instructions it’s mentioned that Nissans do not come with a bracket for trans cooler. Do behru radiators have them and if so where to get one
The HOW-TO for installing an E500E radiator (also directly applicable to the 400E420) documents and shows that there is some slight modification required along the bottom of the radiator to connect the transmission hard line, which the Behr units have built-in.
The HOW-TO also has a comparison of a Behr/OE and a Nissens unit, which shows that the Nissens units do not have the same mounting "base" for the transmission cooler lines, which (this is IN MY OPINION) does not provide for as secure of a connection of the trans cooler lines (banjo bolts + copper washers). You just have to take a bit of extra care with the Nissens units is all, when tightening up the banjo bolts, so that things don't spin in the plastic.
I also have a direct visual comparison in my Engine Bay Refresh thread, located here, between a Nissens that I had installed when I lived in Texas, with a South Africa-manufactured Behr OEM unit. You can see what I am talking about with regard to the banjo bolt mounting surfaces for the transmission cooler lines. The Nissens is a bit weaker and not as robust of a design.
If I couldn’t find a Behr, which is likely to be the case on my next radiator replacement, I might be tempted to apply a bit of two-part epoxy just on two sides at the base of the large nut on the Nissens. Fortunately I have Behr on both cars. Before I installed the last Behr I asked Autohaus the reason for the spray-painted black dot in the lower region of the radiator. They didn’t say why it was there but assured me it was normal. I’m sure it was because that was years ago. Also, I see it’s on the lower left of the @gerryvz radiator too. Maybe an inspection mark?
BBR appears to be a reboxer of cheap offshore parts. Depends if you want to roll those dice or not. Their catalog is terrible. I can't find any USA vendors for their 400E/500E radiator # 001-60-01138.
Yes, unfortunately I followed the tutorial and sheared off the head of banjo bolt. I got it out , but I should know better. Of course bolts nla. I did find one on ebay
