Would you consider a 400e well built and still be viable today

My 92 had 138k and other than a bad cat runs well and all works. I have a 72 250 and a 84 300d but somehow feel ok about their age and reliability .granted a 400e is more complex and has computers but what are your feelings about its durability

I'll take a 400E any day over a W123 chassis. Zero concerns about age or reliability, if you do a decent job maintaining them. Our daily drivers are a 1994 and 1995 E420.

With the increasing number of muppets staring at their phones instead of paying attention, I have no interest in cars that lack ABS and airbags. (I also insist on traction control (ASR/ESP) but that's a separate discussion.)

I like my 123. Reliable, sturdy and will last forever. Also like the power in 400e

I daily drove my 1984 300D turbo for 11 years.

Have been daily driving my 1993 400e now for about a year.

I still love my 123 and will never sell it but the 400e feels more ergonomic and is better for modern traffic.

The 400e is more complicated, harder to work on, more to go wrong, but it is still very reliable.

123 is easier to work on, less to go wrong, but it feels like a classic to me now after living with the 400e for a while. The 123 also gets a lot more attention in the past couple years than it used to, people coming up and asking about it etc. it’s a classic now

I drive around with spare 400e computer modules in the trunk and go on long road trips out of state. I don’t worry about it and haven’t had to use them.

On paper a diesel w123 is more reliable I suppose but I haven’t had to call a tow truck for either 🤷
