Transmission blanket chewed up

I had a leaking speed sensor oring on my transmission. I’m in there replacing it and my transmission blanket is touching the flex disk. Blanket is sagging.

Is this a problem? Looks like it’s getting hot and melting outside flex disk.

Based on my searches the blanket is NLA? Can this even be replaced or somehow held up without dropping the transmission out ?

The blanket is NLA, and cannot be replaced without removing the transmission from the car.

Options at this point are either cutting away the portion of the blanket that may contact the flex disk, or fabricating a thin sheetmetal U-shaped hoop to press the blanket up against the chassis. You definitely want to do this though, bad things happen if the blanket snags on the flex disc at speed.

BTW... hopefully the O-ring on the plastic cup for the speed sensor isn't leaking. Sometimes that leaks too... but it's difficult to remove the plastic cup with the trans in the car.

:duck:

The transmission and flex disks were just replaced not a year ago so I’m not dropping it right now.

I used an exacto knife to carefully cut out a strip of insulation around the flex disk. The rest of the blanket is ok ish and can remain.

I had some of this adhesive sound deadening mat laying around. I cut it in strips and stuck it to the metal and top of cut blanket.

I don’t think it will come off unless it melts.

Used two layers.

If a quality reproduction becomes available I’ll consider a trans removal and proper install.

I made a template of a NOS blanket that I own, and sent it to @mrindiafromuk. I believe he used this template partially to create a new blanket. Perhaps he can supply it to you, and you can fashion a new one out of appropriate material.

My NOS blanket is for sale, but at my usual price of USD $5,000, shipped. Please let me know if interested.
I have a couple of extra blankets cut to shape from an appropriate material that I used on mine . They are $80 plus shipping cost

You had someone custom make that transmission mount?? I wonder what they used for the rubber ?
Kurth sells these. €186 plus S&H plus taxes/duties. Likely $300-$400 USD delivered. I believe someone found the duties due on receipt was like 50%?

@mrindiafromuk - do you recall the total with tariffs, once delivered?
