Immobilizer FBS2 (DAS2) - How does it work?

Which cars have the FBS2 immobilizer?
Do all cars with infrared key have FBS2 immobilizer?
How does the system work?

Yes I do know about these systems due to encountering issues just a few weeks back. I have lots of PDFs on the subject I will upload later when at PC.

Can the OP advise is this in reference to a 140 or 124 etc?

There are different tiers if the IR alarm systems so to answer your question I'll need more specifics on the car in question. What year and model?

I only need the information for Mopf2 E500 with infrared keys.
I found this document already.
So if i look at the document does it mean that if W124 has code 885 it has FBS1a?
In the document the system for W124 is not decribed as FBS1A?
If the car has Infrared key does it always have code 885?
Or was the infrared system also available without FBS (maybe code 880)?

Run your VIN of the vehicle in question to check if the data card has code 885. Or post VIN here. It appears this has the K38 relay presumably behind the dash so could be bypassed fairly easily unlike later DAS2 systems with 8 leg chip in LH ECU in 140s etc.

Reading the info on page 23 it is saying that code 885 would not be available in USA or Japan market vehicles. Since you are in Germany a euro model could have it but check VIN to be sure.

I want to know if E500 has generally BFS1a if it has infrared key.
For me it looks like you had to order the immobilizer (code 885) as an extra, because my German spec. E500 has infrared, but only code 880.
So no immobilizer on this car i think.
My "japanese" E500 also has no immobilizer.

DAS / FBS 1 and 1a were not used on the 124 chassis, per the chart on printed page 13 of that document.

If your E500 does not have code 885, it should not have any form of DAS / FBS. However, it may have a simple starter-disable function as part of the alarm system, which was standard on all USA-spec 124's as of model year 1993 (approx 08/1992 production).

If you read the description of code 885 on pages 23-24, all this system would do is prevent the starter from engaging, same as the standard alarm system.

Are you having a problem starting the car? Or are you just curious if your E500 had some sort of immobiliser besides the starter cutout?

:mushroom:

No, with my cars everything is fine. Both don`t have immobilizer.
I just wanted to understand if cars with infrared key have immobilizer or not.
For me it`s clear now.
Code 880 only infrared keys without immobilizer
Code 885 infrared keys with immobilizer.
Code 551 EDW with immobilizer
