Instrument Binnacle Discoloration

Has anyone experienced a white discoloration around and in the clear plastic of the instrument binnacle? The surface below feels like the finish is peeling (?) and the white discoloration in the clear plastic looks like micro cracking... Thanks, Chap

I've seen the internal "spotting" on multiple cars that lived in high humidity areas (i.e., Florida or Hawai'i). I haven't seen the external discoloration before, or at least not bad enough to notice.

Thankfully this is an easy fix, the cluster housing is identical on all 124's, just buy a good used one from a late model (90-95 vintage) and swap your gauges & warning light strips into the new housing.

Unfortunately, it is extremely common in the cars that live in or are stored in high humidity areas. Dark humid garages and car covers seem to hasten the formation of the deposits. I think it is mold, but I can't say for sure...

I have the same issue in one of mine 500E cluster housings.
I haven't got into the interior parts yet but I have always thought what cleaning material I should use when time comes.
Just warm soap and water or other plastic cleaning materials not to 'fade' the plastic more than it probably is.

I have not been successful cleaning them on the W126. I keep a perfect case for both chassis in climate storage for when (if) the time comes.
