Just wanted to share with everyone the work I had done on my drivers seat and some other stuff. Really impressed with how well the color and grain matched. A lot better than GAT. Stitching isn’t perfect. Overall I’d say it was an 8/10 repair but I only paid $700 for everything you see here. The spots on the headliner are rain btw.

Very nice. Local shop do the work?
No everyone around me sucks 😂, had to drive a couple hours to Indiana and there’s a guy with a little shop there who also has a w124 and does interior work, he reckoned he could fix them so I gave him the benefit of a doubt and am pretty happy with the result.

I don't understand how the horsehair pad just fractures. One of my seats' horsehair pads was fractured as well. One of the previous owners must have been no welter-weight. 🤣

How did fast lane approach the armrest leather?
My shop was not confident about skivving / replacing the armrest leather, so I just had a local guy re-dye the armrest.

He just took some leather that he used to repair the seat and stretched it over the arm rest and then screwed the backing plate on I believe, he stitched it in about the same place as the original, it’s a little wrinkly towards the back some I’m going to see if I can loosen the backing plate in the back and tighten it up and then tighten the plate back on it

I was lucky enough to find someone with a new old stock pad because mine was definitely toast, you sat lopsided lol

Took some pictures.

Looks like he's almost in Greenfield.

Tough to find a good upholstery shop, especially one that knows the details about our cars. My guy is meticulous about things, like sourcing the closest thing you can find to the original headliner material.

Looks nice, and a good deal, too!

Dan

Cool. Try steaming the wrinkles while smoothing w/ your hand to get the wrinkles out

I may have said this elsewhere, but when I got my C126, I did buy new GAHH seat leathers for the front. The color was a bit richer grey than the 24 year aged leather, but the grain was a great match to the under-side stuff that wasnt exposed to wear and light. YMMV of course but that was my experience.

I've had GAHH on the driver's seat of my C126 since the day I picked it up in 2002. I had asked for replacement in the week before I picked it up. It's always been fine, though the leather is slightly thinner than the factory leather.

It’s good to know that GAHH does good work. But man I was looking and they want a small fortune lol.

That's TWO front seats (it says "set") for $2k. But I think what you got for $700 is quite good.
Sorry yes two seats, I’m not sure if you can buy them separately but either way, I would have spent more. But glad you had a good experience with GAHH, I would have went with them if circumstances were different.

Here is an old discussion here on this forum about leather, as well:

That’s very true but as an 18 year old I couldn’t justify paying $2K for [two] seats when I got everything above for $700

You did great doing this all for $700. You have good taste in cars by picking this as one of your first cars at your age, and while I can't speak for others here - you were doing better than I was at 18 yrs old in both getting this kind of car and then figuring out a way to do a quality redo of the seats. Good work!

Thank you, I appreciate it. Only way I can afford it is to work my ass off and do all my own repairs and anything else I do to it. I Put an om606 and 722.6 in it and am doing a whole sportline package on it and have replaced a lot on the car to get it roadworthy. (It’s a 300D not a 500E, I wish lol)

Great job dude! Got a '92 D myself. Mines all stock. You've done some great and interesting things to yours. Keep up the good work.

I like to poke fun at the guys on the forum and tell them they are only 50% true MB men if they don't have a Mercedes diesel. Of course that doesn't apply to our Chief Engineer.......does it Gsxr?

Mines a 93 so 602 same as yours and man are they slow 😂, it does pretty good now

Never driven a 603 I’m sure it’s better than a 602 but my 606 is making close to double a 602 and about 50 or so more than a 603. I guarantee it would be the fastest w124 diesel you’ve ever driven lol.
Remind me what you've done to the 606, with the IP and turbo? Those can make silly power (making a 500E look slow) but it isn't cheap!

It’s a 1998 om606 turbo engine. From a w210 e300. It has the stock 6mm EDC injection pump (602 and 603 both have 5.5mm injection pumps, doesn’t sound like much but I believe I read that 6mm elements almost doubles the amount of fuel supplied vs 5.5mm elements) and a hy35 from a 24V Cummins. And a 722.6, the engine is controlled by a dsl1 ecu and the transmission is controlled by Russel Drake’s PCS TCU. I think there is still some more power left in the pump that’s on it now but I haven’t messed with the base tune because my transmission is getting tired and I don’t want it to start slipping.

I wanted to give an update to everyone, I’ve got the interior completely put in and the Sportline conversion completed and just detailed it today.

Absolutely excellent! What's the horsepower/torque?
Somewhere around probably 230hp and 300ft lbs, really just an educated guess though, I’ve never dyno’d it. It’s honestly pretty fast once it’s in boost, turbo lag is the worst part, looking into doing a more modern, little bit smaller turbo setup to get rid of most of the lag. So ball bearing and maybe vgt.
