This is the Mercedes head unit installed in the E420 "Limited", posted by 036.

I must say it is borderline stunning & certainly complements the W124's interior console. :drool5:

Obviously a relatively more modern unit . What model is it?

I agree! I see a "Nav" button, hopefully there's also a bluetooth module - I'd love to replace my Becker Cascade Pro with that thingie!

Arkady,

I sent an Email to this vendor: http://www.car-radio.de/ with a question about the unit in the first post from DerFuror. He doesn't say anything about the brand as I was asking for, but it is likely an Alpine unit. Here's the reply:

Hello,

Yes, we have got it on stock, it is a Headunit from a Navigation system. This is only radio. You can connect on it the Navigation Box and the CD Changer.

But look for another Units in our Onlineshop: www.car-radio.de

I´m not entirelly sure that it is an Alpine... Becker looked exactly the same...
As said- you need big navy modul, will be difficult to find. Anyway, why do you want to have such a trouble?? Insert just head unit and use a modern GPS... I wonder if this old system would work...

This looks to me like a stock MB unit I've seen before. I really like it however i believe (from a lengthy thread posted long ago) it only works in the later 94 and up model years as a plug and play. I'd like to be wrong here.

The Audio10 is NOT what is shown in this E420. Note the Audio10 has a smaller LCD display and a CD slot above the display. The "mystery" unit has a larger display and a NAV button. I too would like to know what it is. For the Auido10 owner's manual in PDF format, click here. I believe the Audio10 will control the factory MB CD changer (true plug+play?) but it DOES NOT allow an auxiliary input like the 4602, TrafficPro, etc will for an iPod (or other MP3 player). Note the pinouts for connector "C" in the manual are similar to factory, and different than the 4602/TP (which allow optional auxiliary inputs).

Drew, you are correct, most of the late Becker units only work in 94-up W124's as plug+play (and also the W210, and probably some other 94-up models as well). Upgrading a 91-93 W124 stereo requires total rewiring, not fun.

Side note - looks like both the APS4 and APS30 may not allow auxiliary inputs for iPod. The "C" connector appears to be the same as the Audio10, for factory CD only. Anyone know for sure?

:detective:

I just added some info in my post below- no, it has to be "implanted".
Only Tape, CD Changer and Navigation, extern, of course.

036 is our winner of this week's Name That Head Unit! Nicely done.

A round of applause to all of our participants, & special thanks to those providing website links!

Interesting stuff.

:thankyou1:

Sorry, I got that backwards - the APS4 looks older, APS30 looks newer. Russian site was a bit hard to understand.

DerFuror- thanks, was just fun =)

It´s quite hard, ok =)
Try this- look at the blue "Tabelle" - on the left- APS B2- than above what is possible to connect- ipod etc- in the white field right below- what is necessary to build in. Better?

Here something really heavy =)

Those units were commonly found on cars from the late 1990s such as the MLs and such. Very common in the US. Generally made by Alpine.
