Loose SRS Connection

I've removed my cluster for some cleaning and repairs, and after plugging it in - I have noticed that my SRS light does not behave the way it should!

What is happening? It does not light up at all. However, if the cluster isn't pushed in all the way... the SRS light will emit, and will not go away (fault). In some positions it will work and light up, then when I hit a couple bumps on the road, it seems to lose connection completely again.

So, I am assuming two things:
1. The connection to the SRS module (?) is loose or corroded and needs repair.
2. There is a fault in the SRS system that is throwing the light, which I'm sure I can diagnose.

Now for my question:

Where can I follow the SRS light bulb to? To my understanding there is an SRS module under the radio. Could this be where this SRS light bulb wire is going?

Was there any trouble during the cleaning of the cluster? Did you notice that there were loose or cracked solder joints? art you sure the bulb is good and all of the bulbs are placed properly? In my 126 the bulb is removed as the Steering wheel is not SRS enabled so rather than making a shunt to complete the circuit, I just removed the bulb and moved on.

No, I pulled it to clean the dreaded dot disease. Back of the cluster is perfectly working and all functions are fine.

I'm going to attack it once I finish my work for the day, will send some pictures (if needed) for record keeping.

Wires chewed through and bundled up, everything else seems okay which is good.

I don’t have any soldering tools with me so I’ll have to revisit. A bit awkward to work around but at least I know it was a connection issue.

Some wires were wrapped in a black gauze, what is it? I’ve removed most of it where it is falling off, going to wrap in electrical tape where needed.

Yup. Tesa fabric tape was used all over the car on various harnesses.

:klink:

Cool, I'll rewrap appropriately then. If we want to get very nerdy, was there a specific brand used?

Is that multi-colored fuzzy padding stuff required in there? What is it for, sound?
