Oops! Mis-connected jumper cables - ASR / SRS lights on

Yes, I did it. No excuses.

94 500E

SRS and ASR light lit. Connected blink code reader and when probing pin 6, LED lights up solid prior to pressing button. Tried other pin (7) and reader operated as usual, successfully read and cleared codes for cruise control. So I don’t think it’s my code reader.

Any suggestions for my next step (in addition to securing a set of fool-proof jumper cables?)

Aa every one knows, there’s a new and improved fool just around the corner. I continue to provide proof of that.

Pin #6 #8 is the GM/BM (General Module / Basic Module), which is the power supply for the engine computers. Based on your description, it sounds like the BM/GM might be fried and need replacement. They are inexpensive on eBay as they are relatively rare failures. HOWEVER - first check all the fuses on the GM/BM, replace any that have blown.

Next time, try a compact jumper box like the NOCO GB-70 or GBX-75 which both have polarity protection:

:shocking:

Thanks so much.

Oh my, I really appreciate your response but I am a bit confused. I looked at the DTC codes PDF, it states pin 8 is Base Module (and more) and pin 6 is ASR/SRS. I cut from the PDF and pasted below:

Pin #6 - ABS (Anti-lock Brake System) - For models without ASR
(WIS Group 42.30, subgroup 6.2, section #11, one page)
Pin #6 - ABS / ASR (Anti-lock Brake System / ASR) - For models with ASR traction control
(WIS Group 42.40, subgroup 5.2, section #12, two pages)
Pin #7 - CC/ISC (Cruise Control / Idle Speed Control) - For models without ASR (WIS Group 30.21, subgroup 6.2, section #11, two pages) – aka “E-GAS Module”
Pin #7 - EA/CC/ISC (Electronic Accelerator / CC / ISC) - For models with ASR traction control (WIS Group 30.20, subgroup 6.2, section #11, two pages) – aka “E-GAS Module”
Pin #8 - Base Module (Power supply for the other modules – has 4 fuses on top) – aka “Basic Module” (WIS Group 54.21, subgroup 1.1, section #11, one page)

Can you advise?

It's moot as your advice to check the fuses one the BM worked. The first 10a fuse in the block of four was blown. But I'd Luke too know if I am mis-reading something or missed a note.

One issue I still have is the radio won't accept the code.

I'm going to start searching for that in the forums but if you have any suggestions I'd certainly appreciate them.

Thank you again.

Charlie

Never mind! This fool read the instructions - the key was hitting the Tune key after entering the radio code.

When all else fails, read the instructions.

Thank you again, you folks on the Forum are indispensable!

SORRY! You are correct - my fault for replying when tired at the end of the day.

Pin #6 is ASR/ABS, pin #8 is BM/GM.

Did the replacement fuse fix the problem?
