Electrical problem: Dashboard lights and ASR

Hello,

I have a 1993 500e W124 and I'm starting to have serious electrical problems.

Last year, I replaced the gearbox with a new one from the Mercedes Benz Classic factory.

And since then, I've sometimes had the ASR warning light come on and the engine/transmission go into a fault.
No more power, and I have to stop, turn off the engine, and restart it to be able to start again as if nothing had happened.

This problem is exacerbated if I move the gear lever to 2/3/D.

Do you have any repair suggestions, please?

My last problem is that I had my car dry-cleaned (engine compartment).
Since then, all the dashboard warning lights are on, including the fuel battery, etc but the car runs well engine-wise.

If anyone can help me, it would be very kind of you.

Thank you so much

The only time I’ve experienced all dashboard warning lights on is when the alternator fails. Check voltage at the battery terminals with the engine running, should be around 14.4 volts. If the alternator is not charging it will probably read 12.xx volts.

Check for fault codes on the E-GAS module (and ASR module). Wild guessing based on the symptoms, the NSS (neutral safety switch, S16/3) may be either defective, or mis-adjusted.

As @doolar noted above, start by checking the voltage at the battery at idle RPM. Also check the lower engine wire harness to the starter / alternator, it may have been damaged by the cleaning, and may need replacement.

Hello,

And thank you for your research leads.

I'll pass this on to my mechanic friends.

I'm really bad at mechanics, especially electronics.

My strengths are more in aesthetics and detailing.

Aahah

I'll keep you posted.

@MSirius,
Please describe how you “dry-clean” the engine compartment. What products & process is used?
It’s probably dry ice cleaning that’s all the rage in the car detailing world now. Dry ice cleaning has its merits, but also its drawbacks. One is high pressure, another is moving the dirt ”removed” somewhere else, totally uncontrolled. I’m not a fan, in general. 😊

Yes, it's a dry ice cleaning.

I used to do it a few years ago with my company.

I'll take a final photo for you soon.

The chassis is great, but the engine compartment is less so because of this problem, haha.
