Lorinser 500E on the German Flea

Am I reading that VIN tag correctly???

WDB1240361B447870

That would be practically a 1991 model year. Or a super, super early 1992 model year. Probably built in early/mid 1991. At least the facelift was complete (including rear deck lid), and it has the proper E500 headlights.

:cool:

why is the VIN plate screwed on rather than riveted? Signs of front damaged? The car has all the hallmarks from previous owner-Japanese! I guessed this before I even reached the bottom of the page. Wonder why they removed the airbags?

Hmmmmmm;
1) Screwed in VIN plate.
2) Face Lift Conversion.
3) No (expensive) Airbag.
What could all that possibly mean?

Perhaps nothing, perhaps.......

I AM NOT SURE but I THINK airbags were optional until 1992. I BELIEVE Kats were optional (Europe) until that time also, that's why the very early cars did not have them I GUESS.
Kind Regards,

Ron, NOT SURE OF ANYTHING

And they didnt remove airbags- it´s just an early version without bags, first owner didn´t bother to order it :D
Big plus- glowes compartment!!
Driver Airbag was optional till February 1992, passenger - till May 1993.
By the way- american version always had knee protection, automatically added if your ordered airbags. Not to get in Euro models.
