M119.974 timing chain help

Hello guys,

6 months ago, i have tried to change my timing chain, (although it was not that bad) i have ordered 3 chains all of them is slightly longer.

Can anybody help me to get or source timing chain for my E500.

It seems, E500 has different type thus slightly shorter block M119, experts please advice and help to get them back.

Thank you very much.

What is the part number of the chain you purchased which is too long?

The last time i had IWIS chain with reference number of 002-997-84-94 with 216 links. Before that febi, before that 002-997-83-94 (i think) it was too long i had remove like 6 links to similar length as previous ones.

002-997-84-94 is correct for the 119.974 / E500E. Remember the locking link requires the outer plate to be pressed on and crimped in place.

002-997-83-94 is wrong... that only fits the 119.960 engine with tall-deck block and CIS mechanical injection.

Any suggestion of place to get correct chain again, are you guys happy with IWIS brand?

Any way to differentiate long vs short chain,

IWIS is the OEM for the chain, I'd have no problems using IWIS. I don't know the number of links, but if the part number is 002-997-84-94 , it should be correct.

IWIS is the OEM for MB, so either an MB or IWIS chain would be fine. Confirming that 002 997 84 94 is the correct MB part number for this chain.

If you are indeed based in Mongolia (Ulan Bator), then it may be difficult to get the part from anywhere but an MB dealer.

In the USA, the list price from MB for this chain is USD $510, but you can buy it for ~$375.00

The price for an IWIS branded chain in the US is around USD $110. So, I believe the IWIS chain is the best way to go.

Regards,
Gerry

This is what i have ordered and it was long too. It says. D67ZN-19 now i have ordered D67ZN-10 both with 216 links.

Also on the web says, it will fit to E500.

Hello, sorry the last one also slightly longer so didnt fit. Anybody who can source correct one, later i will post total length of the chain. Now i have 3 bew chain all longer than 119.974 lol

Sounds to me like something is wrong with your engine or the old chain. It's extremely unlikely you received 3 defective chains.

How many links are on your old chain vs the new chain? Could be a previous owner/mechanic removed a link from an old, stretched chain to "shorten" it.

Hello guys, now it fits. Last time our mehanics compared and only checked lengths of them. Actually the inside link is little bigger on correct part number so chain sits out outwards than what we have tried. So now it fits.

Thank you for the suggestion and helps everyone.
I will post up my review after starting the engine
