M119 engine parts availability?

Looking to throw myself into a cheap r129 project. I kinda like the r129 with the m119 package better than the m113. I have two other m113 cars.

With that being said, are m119s still easy to maintain? How is the parts availabilty to keep these up on maintenance? Should I just look for a later r129 with a m113?

To start with bear in mind that this is a detuned group C engine(the turbos are missing , and the compression ratio is higher for street use, yes many of the group C parts aren't on the street engine ; but the architecture is there)engine parts are relatively easy to find depending on the specific m119( .98x, .97x,etc) , for ease of ownership and diagnostics I would stick to 96-98 model years(biodegradable harness never touched these years, so you should have no fear).

If you plan on treating it as a true restoration / purist car than go for 89-95; for those years you need to look into whether or not the harness has been changed out. 1989-95 1989-1993 has the closed deck so you can tune it to the moon and back without much issue(there are examples of closed deck m119s sitting comfortably above 700whp), 96-98 94-99 are open deck so if you plan on tuning try to do it within reason and with an emphasis on thermal management( its still an m119, and will easily handle 600+chp, but you have to spend more on preparing it to handle that).

a few years back there was a gt108 (CLK-LM, N/A but making 599hp) for sale. I'll attach some of the photos i saved from the listing, the most notable difference is how the intakes and exhaust systems are setup. threw in the M119HL (sauber C9/C11, in qualifying trim it was making close to 900whp), and M119.98x (R129,W124,W140,C140) for good measure.

Man, that ITB set up is HOT!

:hot:
Its the exhaust setup that intrigues me, I haven't had a chance to look at my .982s manifold yet , but I think the street engines mounting points are visible on thr gt108. So my question is whether or not the gt108s manifold bolt pattern is visible on the .9xx engines. I have a sneaking suspicion that it might be. I'll find out whenever I get a custom manifold.

Great post! I have two cars M119. one of LH Jetronic and One car with me1.0.

Both with relatively low mileage but I want to start to stock up on M119 parts just incase of issues 5 years down the line.

Have you uncovered anyting else on certain M119 parts we should stock? @PJmak

Hey man. I havent relly looked deeply. Im at a point where Im willing to settle on whatever car as long as its the color I want. I am looking for a good condition red SL500 since my c43 is red. I also have another set of the same BBS wheels already to put on it. I would love the m119 but the m113 platform would allow me to swap in a 5.4 m113 fairly easilly. It would give the car just enough exta juice to move around.
