Oil leak around the Steering pump

Hi.
Now when I have the valve cover of,
and I like to fix “all” oil-leeks, I wonder if and possible were engine oil can sips out in the area around the steering hydraulic pump.
And it is engine oil, not ATF, some dirt “behind” the pump. Perhaps it was oil from valve cover seal, but can it leak oil from any other place n just in this area?

Engine oil often leaks from the cam advance solenoid located behind the p/s reservoir, and the oil runs down the front of the head. This can be confused with a power steering (or SLS) fluid leak. If it's definitely engine oil leaking, and the valve cover is not the source, it's very likely to be the solenoid. Details in thread below:

Hi.
Good and interesting thread,
very detailed description.
You mean you don't have to replace the packing boxes at the front of the top cover?
My MB dealer could not find any o-rings, but packing box, one per page is needed. No. A010 997 62 47 is on the packing box.

What is the tightening torque on the screws to
the valve cover?
Best Regards Niklas

If you have an oil leak from the exhaust cam sprocket, behind the distributor rotor bracket/ insulator... then yes, you would replace those seals. But you need to check if that is the source of the oil leak. More often, oil found at the bottom of the distributor is from the cam solenoid, not the cam seal A0109976247 / A0189977947.

Valve cover bolts are 9-10Nm, with new copper seals installed.
