Eric, where did you get the tranny rebuilt?
:?:

Somewhere in San Diego???
I know this sounds kind of ridiculous but I don't really know all the details. Apparently Matt sent it to an acquaintance / friend of his that has been rebuilding transmissions for a very long time (like decades) and knows the .3 like the back of his hand. I believe he did the work at his house and did so kind of as a favor when Matt told him about the level of restoration we are doing thus the quality he really wanted. Anyways sent him all the new parts, had the case tumbled about a month or so ago and I received those pictures yesterday via a text message.
Nice. What alternator did you decide to go with?

wow...this was aaaawesome.!cheeeeers from Norway
im on this level with my Ford Focus Rs mk1

Wow is all I can say, amazing.....what a slog to get there but so going to be worth it
Realize I'm somewhat newb to posting and getting to know people's cars on here, but is there any anyone else out there that people know of who has undertaken a restoration of this magnitude or is this the first one?......I am dying to see it once its all fully put back together......this will no doubt be the nicest one in existence after all is said and done right?..........Forget the 25k mi garage queen with everything rotted over 25 yrs, this is literally factory new!
Truly awesome
It truly is a new old car....
on the board but I was able to get the last W124 V8 speedo MB had in stock. I know some will frown on this and I do understand their point / perspective but I can always have the odometer adjusted to reflect the original mileage on the car. However for the interim while it is a show / trailer queen I think it fits the bill.

Eric, the new speedo is for a 400E/E420... the shift point indicators will be incorrect. Are you OK with that? (doubtful the concours judges would notice, but you never know!)

The car won't be judged on originality. It will be judged on condition.
That is good to know, thanks Ken because I thought I might get an automatic 1/4 or 1/2 point deduction for running the SL 2 piece wheels. Not that I would run 8 holes anyways but I just figure the sheer the shock and awe effect of the 2 piece wheels will help me score more points with the overall presence of the car anyways.

The issue is going to be the knowledge by the judges. This was definitely apparent last year in the Modified class judging. The rarity of Jeff's cars should have won the day but sadly it wasn't. Jeff should have taken first and second in the class IMHO.

Good luck at Legends.

Eric, I forgot to mention one other minor issue... the .034 speedometer will not read correctly in the .036 due to the different axle ratio and tire size. You'll need to wire in a converter box for correction. I use YellowBox, there are a couple other similar units on the market as well. Make sure you order the type for a TWO wire inductive sensor. Most converter boxes are designed for a 3-wire Hall sensor and these will not work on the W124 speedo signal.Funny you say that. The box that I've used for the past 10-11 years in my 560SEC is switchable between 2- and 3-wire systems, FYI.Eric, I forgot to mention one other minor issue... the .034 speedometer will not read correctly in the .036 due to the different axle ratio and tire size. Sorry to report no 036's at Legends

The box that I've used for the past 10-11 years in my 560SEC is switchable between 2- and 3-wire systems, FYI.

A VDO shop should be able to adjust the new speedo so it will read correctly without a converter box. If you go this route, make sure to verify both the speedometer and odometer readings via GPS afterwards.Great.... I wasn't too bothered by the shift point indicators but I was worried about a possible issue like this. Anyways thanks for the input and suggestion about the YellowBox (interesting little contraption). For now I am just going to throw my original speedo back in the cluster until I can figure out what I will do with the new one. I might try contacting North Hollywood Speedometer and see if it would be feasible to send them the both the new speedo and one out of the 500E Jeff is currently parting out and see if they can swap the necessary parts between the two so it corrects this issue. However if that is not an option I will definitely go with Plan B and buy one of those YellowBoxes.

Hello Guest !
We wanted to let you know about a new resource that is now available to all 500Eboard members. This is a comprehensive database of all US-market (and soon to include Canadian-market) 500E and E500 models delivered for the 1992 through 1994 model years.
Data for this resource has been compiled continuously since mid-2003, and much of this information is seeing the light of day for the very first time ever. This new resource will allow you to utilize 500Eboard research and resources to track specific cars, their sale history, documented modifications, and other information that has surfaced over the years.
We are also providing analytics about the cars' production. This means that if you are curious as to how many "Signal Red" cars were produced for the US market with a black interior, specifically in Model Year 1993, you can now easily find this information. You can also find aggregated information -- for example, how many "Black Pearl" cars were imported into the US over the three-year span.
You can always find and enjoy this resource by clicking here (bookmark the site for easy reference!), or by going to the “500Eboard Registry and VIN Database” sub-forum below. You can also find a VIN Database button at the top of your screen, for easy access.
We hope you enjoy this resource. A LOT of blood, sweat and tears over nearly 23 years have gone into its creation.
Cheers,
500Eboard Management
