Restoration Update 11/28/15:

Well it has almost been 4 months to the day since my last update. I saw the car briefly yesterday and Matt has it pretty close. Other than for some odds and ends that are NLA (like the right and left carpet liners for the trunk!) the car is virtually finished. Would you believe even the shifter bezels are NLA now? Fortunately we have some clean ones laying around but unbelieveable... Anyways if I get done dealing with all my wife's Christmas lights and decorations early enough today I am going to run back up to Matt's and see if we can take it out on it's first shake down run today. It also needs a good wash as with 4 months or so worth of dust sitting on it right now the 744 is not really looking like Brilliant Silver Metallic but more like a Matte Grey. Anyways if or when I do I will post some more pictures and maybe some videos. This has been a long and arduous project so I'm actually having a bit of a hard time comprehending that I am actually going to have a car I can drive after all this. Woohoo!!!

Oh for the sake of Pete. What bezel exactly? Part number? I can add it to the NLA list...

Otherwise, ditto what Glen said! Need pics!!

Restoration Update 11/29/15:

Finally took the first drive late yesterday afternoon :tears_of_joy:. I figured the 1st gear start valve body would make a notable difference but I could not believe how easily the car could still break loose with an LSD and set of 275's. Needless to say it seemed very happy to be back on the road after nearly a two year hiatus. Anyways more to come as we are more or less just getting down to some odds and ends. In short I'm really looking forward to some early Saturday and Sunday morning extended shake down drives in the coming weeks (weather permitting of course).

Anyways I only took a few pics yesterday as I was more like a little kid on Christmas morning waiting to ride his new bike. Again more to come especially after a good bath but I'm really happy with the ride height and stance after the suspension settled:

Looks amazing, Eric. Ride height looks a bit lower than stock, what springs are you running???

Thank you and believe it or not those are just brand new factory springs on #1 pads. Funny thing is when we first dropped the car on the ground about 5 months ago it was sitting really high so we figured it would take some time for the new springs to settle. Not yesterday, a few miles and the added weight of a full tank of gas seemed to have helped tremendously.

Eric,

It looks absolutely awesome!! I don't think diamonds shine that much. I can't wait to see it in person.

Take Care

You are one brave dude. I'd be afraid to let that thing past the velvet ropes, outside of a museum...!

Magnificent!!

I know how you feel about holding your breath while driving. That's me in the 55 amidst all these disposable cars. "Keep calm and pay attention" is my meditative chant.

BTW, did you get your speedo issue sorted? A real joy for me of having a rebuilt .3 in the car is watching it switch gears at WOT at precisely the correct shift points. It's kind of a confirmation thing that was really helpful in "tuning" the rebuilt box as well.

Cheers,

maw

Cheers from Norway:)

Thanks for the comments all. The car is actually parked in my garage tonight and as lame as it sounds I'm actually somewhat numb. After all this time I'm having a hard time comprehending that other than for a few issues and details it is pretty much finished. So it's like "now what do I do"?

:whistling2: :-? :hammerhead:

I did. Per the Tom Hanson's recommendation I sent it to Palo Alto Speedometer. In fact I actually sent them both the new and the old one as apparently they were going to need to pull the gears out of the old one and install them in the new one. However fortunately after receiving them they gave me a call and said they just happen to have one set of the correct gears left sitting on the shelf (back in the catacombs to quote them) so they did not need to cannibalize my original speedometer. So I was pretty happy about that especially because they only charged me like $10 for the parts. Anyways being a 420 speedo the shift points are unfortunately off but given how much the new dial with that bright Orange just pops I am OK with going that route. Besides I can always switch it back at any point, just need to adjust the odometer if I do so.
