Hello,
My name is Chris, just purchased a 1993 all original 2 owner, bone stock.
She is a lady, with a story.
I bought this car to flip and fund a Toyota FJ40 restoration I am 3/4's through.
But dammit, I have always loved this car, and although I thought it was going to be a total rat, it ended up being a rock solid, two owner beast.
The owner I just purchased it from paid $42000 or so in 2000 Star Marked( the old MB CPO) from a Mercedes-Benz dealer in Ma.
He put 15,000 or so miles on her in 14.5 years. It sounds like all roses so far.
The car has around 61000 original miles and has very, very little rust. I took a magnet all over ever fenders, quarter panels, corners etc...
Mechanically she is in much, much better shape than I had dreamed. I am in the middle of doing pads and rotors, a water pump, both rear shocks and the obvious flushes and fluids. The previous owner actually kept up with oil changes.
Now the rest of my story.
The paint was redone on half the car. Ray Charles did the prep work, and Stevie Wonder did the painting. Jose Feliciano did the clear, and I think Helen Keller did the quality control. I honestly have never seen a worse job on such a quality car. It is a complete shame what he did to this car.
The previouss owner also was a smoker, he took what should be a $60,000 car by todays standards, and in my opinion destroyed what he had.
This car is not beat, was unmolested and by all means should be one of the top 15 in the United States. But how or why he would ask someone to paint it, and someone who had no clue is beyond me.
So, what do I do is the question? I really was trying to just flip it, but the further I get into it, the nicer the car is. Realistically, its 10 grand I really don't have right now. I also say, with some interior detailing, and a quality paint job, this car with its miles, will rival most cars I have seen for sale with the exception of the truly rare sub 25000 mile cars. Now I am thinking of dumping my first project, and keeping this.
Realistically though, as much as I love the car, I have other automotive passions that I would trade it towards eventually.
When I tell you the paint was done poorly, we are talking paint roller, spray paint combo on the entire hood, front quarters and roof and rear pillars.
This is an entire repaint car.
I would love some opinions.
Pictures to follow as soon as I learn how.
