Paint meter measurements on R129

Hi guys,
I’ve been looking for a nice R129 SL500. I have found two. One is on BAT and one thru a classified ad. Both are silver and supposedly have original paint.

What is interesting are the paint readings between the two cars. The R129 currently on BAT is showing readings between 1.5-2.0. The car that isn’t on BAT is showing readings between 3.5-5.00 consistently on all panels. Does that mean the non-BAT car most likely doesn’t have original paint? What are considered normal paint levels from the factory from cars if this era? Thanks in advance.

The 1.5 mil car probably has been compounded?

Most detailers are overaggressive in their polishing, IMO. You'll never be able to tell the difference between a light polish and a full compound & polish, and the latter significantly compromises the paint.

I have heard from person who makes classic car ratings that MB car are painted with equal quality ie. the thinkness is pretty much the same everywhere in one car and cross the production . Meaning that 3,5 - 5 sounds manually repainted especialy compared to the other R129.
