Passenger front quarter panel paint damage from coolant reservoir heat?

Hello everyone,

I just noticed some severe paint damage on the passenger quarter panel, directly above the wheel arch, near the hood. The clear coat is peeling in two large sections roughly 4 inches long and another about 2 inches along the hood. The paint all along the top of the quarter panel is looking worse than before as well.

Could this be from the heat in the coolant reservoir? Its been hot this summer but with the a/c running, the auxiliary fans have kept the temps to 105 at the most and thats infrequently.

Could something else be doing this? I do have the monovalve bypassed for the summer so my heater core wouldn't get coolant. 20260905_185858.jpg

I doubt it IMO. Multiple cars over multiple makes and models, never seen something like that caused by underhood heat off any part.

On Subarus where the TMIC scoop also functions as an engine bay vent at a stop, paint does fade at the scoop inlet. But a buff brings it back to shine.

That's with factory paint though. Resprays, especially with repairs underneath? Anything goes.

Not a bad idea to run your heater in warm climates to keep things flowing from time to time. Not good for the fluids to sit in the heater core for years, especially if the crap is green prestone type smooge.
