Request - 500E Instrument Cluster PCB Pics

Hey Everyone,

I've tried to search on this but its a bit difficult a thing to properly describe and usually not a problem that I've run across. I'm working on a 500E cluster, a resistor on the fuel/oil/coolant gauge has gave up the ghost. I've compared this gauge to other 124 gauges I've worked on in the past and it appears this is unique to the 500E cluster. I've looked at other 500E clusters I've worked on in the past but I did not take good pictures of the area. I also checked on eBay and none of the listed ones are the same.

If anyone has a cluster and can share some pictures, I would appreciate it. I just need to see the resistor's color code:

Let me see if I can wrangle up some photos if I can find my 500E gauge. That said, there is more than one way to accomplish your goal, which is especially useful bc your 500E gauge is afflicted with Dreaded Dot Disease. You can use a gauge from a different w124 if you recalibrate the fuel part of the gauge. I did this 9 years ago and it works great.

With gsxr's guidance, I was able to recalibrate the 300E fuel gauge to work with the 500E's fuel level sender. This time I did it properly. As promised, I am putting my notes up here to share with the board if anyone else wants to attempt this. Stevester --- I know you were asking me about this a while ago---- this is how to use a 300E fuel gauge with the econometer with the 500E.

The w124 fuel level senders all work the same way. When the float is high (full tank), the fuel level sender outputs very small resistance ---- around 4 ohms as...

Thanks Jlaa! This is prefect. That looks to be the same one used in the non-500E gauges, orange-blue-gold-gold, 3.6 Ohms. 5%. I suppose it could be orange-blue-brown-brown but that would make it 360 Ohms 1%. I dont think they were using 1% resistors here.

Jlaa--would you have the ability to stick a ohmmeter across it in circuit? Not sure if you have the piece handy or these are old pictures. I would bet the number is maybe 5 or so in circuit.

Thanks again everyone! The tip on the fuel gauge recalibration is great too I came across that thread earlier in my searches.

Pedigree's cluster does suffer from the dots. I've sourced a replacement housing that is much nicer but the gauge faces are also impacted.

No problem - I can do that but won't be able to get to the location where the gauge is until late July..... please send me a reminder (update this thread) in a month!

Appreciate the offer but as it turns out not needed!

I was able to install a 3.6 ohm resistor and the gauge powered up like normal! I think we are good here.
