Roadtrip to northern Germany and southern Denmark / Sweden

t-1 - Tomorrow we have lift-off

Oil, Brakefluid and AC Refill done. Still some small things to do before we head of tomorrow:
- AC controller is acting strange
- Left speaker on Radio
- Fuelgauge is living its one life
- Antenna does not want to come out properly

Did 800km today. Car is running great. Initially the kick down would not work, but with every km it seems to be getting more normal again. Photo is courtesy of my passenger.

In stock mode, the needle actually goes slightly beyond 260km/h. The challenge ist that now days it is very difficult to drive safely at that speed (too much traffic and too many people pulling out without looking), so no real need to remove it. I wish it was different.....

Trip is going well, but some technical gremlins I need to address:
- AC - while it is running and keeping us fresh, the controls do act up a bid wird. I assume it is that some temp sensors don’t align
- I had an on and off failure of one of the turning lights. It is corrosion in the socket
- I found a strange nylon wire like 1mm thick under the seat. Not sure yet what it is for
- kick-down only goes down one gear in S-mode
- the alarm system is showing a continuous red light and not functioning
- fuel gauge sensor needs refurbishing
- front left speaker needed replacement
- the rubber cap for the antenna dissolved

Overall not bad for a poor car that was not moved the last 14 years and now did 1600km in one week

I have the control panels for both the dual zone and the automatic clima if you suspect that, it's pretty easy to replace if you want to. Working a/c is a must now with the temps here in Sweden around 30C/86F. Scorchio!!

Thx for the offer Thomas, but it seems with every km more, more functions are recovering. So currently AC works perfect

Sweet! Now you need the EPROM that removes the top-speed limiter, and will let you pull beyond 6000rpm...

:jono:
I did not pull the speed limiter on any of my cars. They seem to all go to slightly over speedometer 260km/h at slightly above 6000rpm, before the rev-limiter hits. Which is, when you eliminate the tolerance aprx 250km/h real speed. So not sure if the later versions had an effective speedlimiter or just the rev limiter

Trip is done we did 3'273km. Only must solve technical issue was the front right signal light. Where contact spray solved the issue. I was amazed at the oxidization in the socket. What I can say as well that with every km things improved. It is clear, these cars want and must be driven.

Interesting is that a 31 year old car is for most parts still king of the road. To bad they did not have 7 speed transmissions back then as the with 4 speeds, the acceleration is just too slow vs some of the modern cars.

I did do an oil and brake fluid service before the start of the trip. Interesting is that at the start of the trip neither AC nor kick-down would work properly, but this solved itself over the drive.

So my to do list:
- Fix the hanging interior liner
- Fix the engine insolation carpet
- Light switch does not move smoothly
- Antenna, one segment does not extract
- Rubber-cap on the antenna foot needs replacement
- Interior temp-sensor blow motor does not produce suction
- Rust in some places
- Alarm-system is not working
- Need to check
- Change the rubber on the wipers for the front lights

The speedos are notoriously inaccurate (usually indicating faster than actual) above roughly the midpoint of scale (80mph / 130kph). The math shows the 250kph limiter should kick in around 5950 rpm. The tach can also be slightly off. Need a GPS to confirm actual speed. Tire size other than stock will affect actual GPS speed vs speedometer indicated.

Removing the limiter will let it pull to about 6350rpm or 265-270kph, with stock tire diameter / rolling circumference.
