Test fitted the fuel rails/checked injector alignment and M156/9 fuel pressure/temp sender fitment. unfortunately the trumpets are hidden in the plenum later on. Anyways I call it quite an achievement. Also it amazes me the MB part mix on this engine - from base M117 over M119.96 and .97, M285, M273, to M156/9 items and a bit of thinking.

AL0766X is available in USA from AHAZ for $222 USD plus tax & shipping (link).

EDIT: Also $80 core charge... over $300 plus tax and shipping.

:spend:

That's even better, but does it say 222$ + core exchange or + 80$? I had no core change, tax & shipping included (ordered through Bosch dealer)... Anyways, in general I think a good investment.

Have purchased another wheel set. Which might replace the [Rial] M800's temporarily or permanent. Even so they (the M800) are for me the best looking wheels for this car, three things turned me off:
  • Width, especially at the rear axle
  • Weight they are quite heavy assembling almost 25kg (55 lbs) a wheel (including tire)
  • Need of spacers at least at the rear to look right

So what next?

Back to Brabus, no Mono II's as have been already on the car initially since they are not my taste and also way too heavy but something exactly in the same size, 9.5 x 18 ET26. This time forged and as 3 piece setup. Intending to put the same tires on as before, 245 front, 285 rear.

They need some work but that's no issue. Center's finishing is still to be decided on, either to be in silver, machined, 199 glossy or alto grey (lower classing color silk gloss).

Hoping also for some weight reduction since even my 19" RH have been 2kg lighter than the rials.

Got some small progress on the W123 done, managed to get the external gravity fed fuel catch tank for the dual Bosch044 pumps and upper intake manifold including intercooler welded up.

On another note, I posted also some time ago to have purchased a '97 C36 AMG. I had replaced the bearings, valve stem seals etc on it as a preventive measure and started to dismantle the car for a full repaint. However while already not in a good mood doing so (as I needed alot of rubber parts and other bits and pieces - which would clearly exceed the cost of a sample which doesn't need such work) I found a big dent in the side member after removing the panel. This broke the last string of desire for this car.
So I dismantled it for the sale of parts and will utilize the engine in a much more desirable configuration a W201/190 chassis.
Installation of the engine is a no brainer if you take a six cylinder chassis as a base, converted to manual transmission (5 speed for now) with Sachs Performance clutch and flywheel, new dual mass OE flywheel with integrated 60-2 trigger wheel, Tezet headers, a stainless evo1 power pack/190e 3.2 amg exhaust system, movit brakes and some other stuff on order such as fabric matched recaro pole position seats, carbon door liners and a kW v3 suspension.
Currently in process to do the engine wiring for the aftermarket ecu.

Last 3 photos of the C36 sill damage

Sorry to hear this Rouven, That's the black japanese C36 in Kuwait?

Do you have a parts list? those headers have TUV ?

No worries Ahmed, all is good with that decision as the 190 is my favourite chassis. The car was/is emerald black and I have bought it a few years ago. I know about a couple of japenese C36 here locally, silver, black, emerald black in color.

You get a ABE along with them (the red document in the photo with the headers on the tiled floor) , stock cat fits onto them. There are Chinese ones for half the price on ebay Kleinanzeigen without papers.

Are you using the w202 as a parts car..just because of that small dent in the sill?

YES 🤯, i have already completely gutted it. Some parts are sold (ecu and drive authorisation plus keys yielded almost the purchase price of the car 😉) interior is very good, suspension setup, body kit etc will support in the purchase of required parts.
Some other things will live on in the 190, like some wiring (relocating battery into trunk) etc.

Having parted out a C36 a few years ago myself I am familiar with the decision process. On that car it was absolutely rusted out and not possible to restore. I pilfered it for all the good parts, sold the body kit and got back my purchase price. Installed the engine and ECU etc in a w124 of mine.

In this case now given the rising value of C36s and the small Dent that car probably should not have been parted out..... but then Rouven wanted the engine for a 190E so for him personally it may still make sense and that's all that matters really 🤔

Of course it is none other than " the owners" choice :) ..i was just flabbergasted that that was the case...I have not followed the whole process..but i didnt see it as it was bought because of using the parts only...it was about to be " restored "...was it not? Such a shame to part it out i think.

Yes Stephan, it was supposed to be restored but the investment in small bits and pieces would have increased the cost to a point of not being reasonable especially considering the local market environment where the potential audience for such a car is very small and money isn't flowing much and easy accordingly. So I sell the stuff and take the money in return and put it in something purer with a higher entertainment factor.
Plus the remaining C36 got just a bit more valuable.. 😅

Also you could argue about it but I think the C43 is the superior package especially considering a swap to a 55 is just plug and play...not speaking of the opportunity to put a 55k in it..

I think Rouven did us a favour :D . One less 1997 C36 makes the ones still on the road a little more valuable.
But why the W201?! with exception to less rust I don't see any advantages.

Exactly, tbh I m also not sad to see any essential 2.5-16 or evo parts/engines on sale, its just the opportunity for me to pick up some rare stuff knowing that my car(s) just got a bit rarer and more desirable while having sufficient parts to keep them in top shape.

Also parting out this car didn't hurt much as it cost me not even 1500usd..

The 201 is lighter, nimble, has a manual transmission (forget the efforts to convert to manual on a ME powered, 722.6 geared and ETS traction controlled car) and I have a ton of parts ready in the stash for it. Be it the brakes, exhaust, interior bits n pieces etc. In addition to the further weight reduction I will perform by installing recaro pole position seats, carbon door liners, kW suspension etc this thing will be much more fun and engaging to drive than the initial car will ever be.

Can I just take this opportunity to point out that the w202 and w203 chassis are probably the worst poverty spec MB chassis to ever be produced. Nothing about those cars is good which was my main motivation for cutting mine up!

Wait… you paid 1500usd for a ‘97 C36?
I would say slight overpayment there but maybe not far off I paid £900 for my C36 with full service history folder etc then took a Stihl saw to it, minor detail. The C36 stuff does go for good £££ such as the steering wheel and rubber arch spats.

Guys how should I say...there is something, a confession to be made and I hope I don't get banned for this - or worse. I did something, something (maybe not) terrible (after all), something I never expected from myself but temptation was too strong so I sinned... E500E and MB gods forgive me. Its the first time I'm really cheating because I'm in love (I think).
I post only one little picture about it, the rest I leave up to your imagination. I hope nobody gets nightmares...
After all its my appreciation of fine analogue driving machines and very well in line with (well its successor) and fierce competitor of - our W124.036

O-No! Not a Beemer:gsxr2:

Meanwhile some update from the 190E 2.6 converted with the M104 3.6L C36 engine.
Car runs meanwhile and I reconditioned the front lower control arms with stiffer bushings and new ball joints (MB only).
Also got a super rare NOS BNIB 6 cylinder AMG suspension kit and duck tail wing. Added a Momo M38 AMG steering wheel from my stock and waiting to source the full body kit and 3 piece aeros.
End of the month some carbon fiber door cards shall arrive too while ordered parts to recondition the rear axle.

How did you remove the small bronze metal piece on photo nr. 2 please?
I am in the same process.

How did you remove the small bronze metal piece on photo nr. 2 please?
Read this thread / post for more info on the odo gear sleeve:

That's indeed right, just latest development with the body kit.

Also, as the 300mm rear disc I use in this vehicle setup is NLA (had posted about it) I was forced to order rear silver arrow discs which are still available.
These shall arrive in another week or so.

Some update here, got recently a set of Neez Euro 6 wheels and might put up even the Rials on sale, but haven't decided yet. Fact is that i want to reduce my footprint as well to reshape it even a bit. Where we currently plan a professional photo session for the Evo2 to put it up on sale (potentially).
Maybe the R129 will also go in the mid-term.

Not for the need of money just to reduce the number of cars.

On the other hand I have shifted my professional focus as I have decided to end after 27 years my career with Mercedes-Benz last week and moved on to become the aftersales manager of the local Porsche dealership. Part of my motivation was due to current MB strategy which I don't believe in as well the luxury approach where I don't see the quality either and luxury isn't because you say it 100 times or put stars everywhere.

As a compensation for the evo2 I m going to try to get something new (would be my first newly ordered car), sporty & wingless made in Zuffenhausen 🤞🤞🤞let's see how that goes - unless something changes my mind to keep the Evo2.

Here some photos of the Neez, clean set.

Finally the 6L heads are back. After a small rework, renewal of exhaust valve guides, with a minimal skimming and change to double valve spring setup, I can finally continue the engine assembly during this year's summer stay back home.

As I am back home since last Friday, I worked the second consecutive day assembling the 6L lump.
Current situation, both heads are back on, auxiliary drive components partially bolted on, cams and timing set on left bank, will continue tomorrow with cams and setting timing on right bank.
Parts cleaning consumes alot of time.
Also as I was long time owing @gsxr the valve lift into of the installed amg cams: base circle 37mm, intake valve lift 10.5mm, exhaust 9.8mm

Some more pics, timing done, some small bits an pieces fitted, more cleaning of parts and more parts ordered. The distributor rear caps are now at 200€ a piece 😢 and many things NLA. For example oil dipstick tube, air pump plumbing etc.
Will take from the 5L as i replaced all that stuff back then.

On the intake port photo you can clearly see the work done by amg, porting the heads as well as matching the upper intake half to the heads. Also the intake manifold gaskets needs a bit of trimming, you can understand from the intake port photo that the gasket is protruding slightly into the port along the lower edge.
Besides a minimal skimming of the heads and new valve guides and newly cut valve seats with optimised contour the only other upgrade was the conversion to the dual valve spring setup while maintaining the lighter tapets.

Some more pics, spend good time of the day cleaning the intake manifold internally.
What a royal pita thanks to the egr! Amazingly it seems that not only the head to intake manifold joints are ported but obviously both, full upper and lower half as well as the plenum itself and throttle body bore.
Documentation doesn't say that actually. Anyone seen this on their original 6.0?

Hi Tim, not sure yet if I will install the engine this time. But will do so e comparison.

I wasn't happy with the appearance of the external looks of the intake manifold so went to a local blasting shop this morning and got it glass powder blasted. It isn't really abrasive, more of a surface correction, and it's now proper clean and quite smooth. Important to flush it excessively with water and air to ensure any residues of the media is removed and can't enter the engine.

Will do the adaptation of the gaskets and assembling of the upper/lower halves as well as bolting it up on the engine. More pictures in a 2-3 hours.

Just finished for today. Intake manifold is sitting back on top of the engine and is torqued down.
The intake manifold gaskets required a bit of trimming on all cylinders . I removed material in the area where they protruded into the ports. Refer to before and after, photo 1&2. Photo 3 shows the sanding insert for the drill machine.
Also nice to have, the installation tool for the front timing covers to avoid struggles with the distributor radial seals.

Small progress only, valve covers are back on after I had ensured that all cam bearing caps are fitted without stress and are well lubricated, tightened them with 12Nm.
Valve covers got newly painted, discussed with my brother the color and decided to go for an aluminium silver matt finish. Looks good IMO.
Put on the amg stickers on the right side valve cover, likewise assembled the new pcv piping an dput it on.
The injectors look not so happy and can't test them right now so will swap them from the original engine plus new seals even so the old ones just saw a couple 1000km only.
Likewise I will take over the eta from the original engine as well as upper and lower wiring harnesses as they are all more recent.

Not much to report today except that it bothered me that the looks of the glass-powder blasted intake manifold and power steering fluid tank looked too different compared to the air pump bracket, tandem pump bracket and top housing of the water pump. So just got the parts off the engine again, got them blasted and fixed them back... Now trying to arrange a work bay with a vehicle lift in the storage unit to swap it 🤞🤞🤞.
Also ordered a set of correct C9YCC plugs today at the dealer.
Fun fact I had to point them to the FO text line popping up when selecting group 15 which is derived from the vedoc link to get the plug part numbers otherwise would have gotten the sta dard C11YCC plugs. Unfortunately the best systems aren't useful if people either don't know or are too ignorant to use all information on hand.
