SA code 855 - Transmition?

I came a rods a car meet with several 500E and one of them had a code called

NEW AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

So I wonder what that code 855 means?

The transmition had the number.
722.370
Vin number on the car is
WDB1240361B961438

For an older model 1991 they had transmition number.
722.365
Vin number wdb1240361B575657

Do we know that is a d why it could be ordered as an option code.?

370 new has same design and function selector lever as older 365
 
Search the forum for previous discussion on SA code 855.

It DOES NOT have anything to do with the transmission. That description is inaccurate for vehicles built up through 1995.

But the transmition does have another number to it meaning it's an uodated or difrent transmition. 722.365 and 722.370 has to be difrent and they are both born as 500E not E 500 as could have eksplained it. So the question still remains despite the code beeing nonsens and 855 beeing D net GSM phone on upper console

I believe the only difference between 722.365 and 722.370 is that the early unit has a rear pump (allowing tow-starting), the late unit deleted the rear pump. This changed occurred around 1992-93 and WAS NOT part of the facelift.

Yes ok it makes sense. And yes alot of stuf were not changed with facelift but on model year or just at the time beeing they came up with it. The same goes for the vacum economy gauge. They also stoppes using these from august 1990 that's also in the midle of a model year. But they have bulltins or chabhe morders notes that trells all these changes they did throgh the years. Like going from single fuel pump to dual and back again etc.

As far as I know, the all 500Es produced and nearly all E500s produced came from the factory with dual Bosch fuel pumps. It was only very very late in the production of the E500, when the factory went to a single Pierburg fuel pump.

So, at least for the 500E and E500, MB didn't go FROM a single fuel pump TO a double fuel pump and THEN BACK to a single pump.

They came with a duel fuel pump and about 95% of the way through production, then went TO a single fuel pump.

Also, it is exceedingly common for MB to "recycle" three-digit SA codes over the years; other codes tend to remain consistent over the years (or very close to consistent). I have seen specific SA codes have three or four different references, depending on if the car was produced in the 1950s/60s/70s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, or newer. It just depends on the specific code.

Now it were genrwlly speaking for the 124 series that went that way in 1988 i think sedan 230/260/300 etc went from single to dual pump and with the 280/320 they dident have the demand for dual pump because it were a KE jetronic isue they used 2 pump to solve veporization and as the newer M104 dident run that high fuel presure there were no need for a dual pump in serie setup. 🙂 Those changed through out the time are me tilmed in the mercedes service WIS what production date and engine chassis numbers from and to it were chnahed. Hence the. Mentioned facelift are not follow ed for these kind of changes. Spolen from gsxr 🙂
