Seat Heater not working ...

My driver-side seat heater is not working ...
Can anyone give me some pointers or trouble shooting advice, pls.
If the element is bad, could I buy a genenric element and connect it to my harness?
Has anyone ever done that ...?

Do the little red LED's on both switches work normally, but you have no heat? Is it one or both seats, and is it just the bottom or backrest or both? I assume you've checked the fuses, which are in a small, separate 2-position fuse holder outside the normal fuse box?
