I have a steering pump which is still attached to my spare 1993 500E engine. It only has 53000 miles, if you are interested. Pump should not be worn out at that low mileage. Send me a PM if interested
@szvook, what was the issue with your old / existing pump? Make sure to re-seal Steve's pump before installing - in particular, the front shaft seal should be fresh. If the S-hose isn't recent, it's cheap to replace while the system is empty...
Yes, unless something is wrong mechanically with these pumps, they can easily be re-sealed. There is a HOW-TO on this in the forum for anyone who needs the reference.
@gsxr@gerryvz My original pump is leaking quite a bit. The shop my mechanic uses to reseal the pump is closed for renovation for about two weeks. I need to drive to San Francisco for work this Friday, so I need a pump with no leaks in the meantime.
It took 187K miles in order for my original pump to leak and I will have it resealed. With the pump with only 53K miles, the seals should be ok. Time will tell.

Charlie, the pumps are the same across all years of E500E. There are both ZF and LuK/Vickers pumps, also interchangeable, but the seal kits are different.
What is wrong with your pump? The typical failure is the front shaft seal, which will cause a significant leak of SLS fluid (not power steering fluid). Usually re-sealing the pump is all that's needed.
Front seal per my indy. Forum how-to’s inform me that it’s a pita to get out and back and I’m no longer capable. So, wanted to bring car and rebuilt/new tandem to him to swap. I’d then bench re-seal /rebuild and (hopefully) re-sell. I can’t be the last guy looking for one. Or maybe I am
My baby is becoming a BOAT as in Break Out Another Thousand.
Dave, yeah, I was certain it’s not PS by the smell (actually the lack thereof) but while he was doing the upper harness and ETA I asked him to run down the hydro leak.
Another option is to try and locate a pump from an R129 or 140 chassis, they are nearly identical. If you found a good core, you could send it to C&M Hydraulics for a rebuild. Or, contact C&M and see if they happen to have a pump in stock (with core/exchange).
C&M website indicated nada. My indy found one at $599. Ouch but I can’t execute a “have him pull it at his garage” and re-seal in mine. Since I’m going to take it in the shorts for the R&R I figured I’d cry once and then enjoy my ride once the snow clears. BTW, what is the proper MB lube for this?
I just realized that I had not followed up with C&M, I had been talking with one of the MB guys at one of the online sites. The C&M was listed there as not available and I conflated his response with my neglected intent to call C&M. Indy called me with his message and so I fell to my knees in relief and abandoned any alternative search. I doubt it’s new.
Regarding fluids, I inadvertently left 2 units in my cart when I found and ordered the NLA then not-NLA lower radiator house and already had a couple while I fought through the fluid loss discovery previously. This I fixed with the posted how-to specific to 94s. Lot of work for 2” hose. Ergo, lots of MB PS fluid. I also have plenty of the MB hydro fluid. I can probably suck a bunch out of the cardboard under the car The cost diff is mice nuts compared to the ETA, upper harness and now this expense in the last 2 weeks.
Re: availability, they told him Wednesday, I didn’t ask who from (I didn’t want to put the malocchio on things - I’m not superstitious but I am a little stitious.)
I hope it’s the right one. I found the online sites served up a pump based on part number but then precluded hydro shocks.
