Top of oil filter housing not comming off??

Hi Guy's,
I am doing my first oil change on my 1992 500E.
Removed the bolt /washer that runs through the filter canister....but the top piece seems to be stuck.....is it threaded ??
Maybe just needs a light tap to free the "O" ring??

The top piece pulls straight off. Just tap it with a mallet, or CAREFULLY wedge a small screwdriver in between the lid and the filter housing.

I used the bolt and wiggled it until it broke free.....mission accomplished!!

What kind of oil and filter brand did you end up using?

OOOOOPS!
Just saw this, I ordered a Mann Filter from Amazon prime @$11.04 shipped. Now using Mobil 1 10-40. Also ordered the Diagnostic code reader tool forMercedes W140 R129 S320 E500 S320 S500 SL320 and HengstPower Steering Filter from Amazon....love that 1 click option!

Mobil-1 10W-40 is ok but don't use it for extended drains, as it's a Group III base stock. Change it between 3k-5k and you should be fine.

Try to use Hengst filters in the future if you can -- a bit better than Mann.

For the M119, I don't bother with aftermarket engine oil filters. Genuine Mercedes filters are only $8.63 from parts.com...

I just changed the oil in my E500 yesterday in preparation for the 2014 NHRA race season. OE filter is made by Knecht. The UOA sample was sent out today for analysis....
