Oil pressure gauge

My oil pressure gauge was fluctuating in sync with power from 1-3
Now steady at 3 at all times.
Gauge issue? Had been thinking about replacing the oil sensor…then this.
Appreciate input.

Which vehicle? If it's the 500E... has your lower harness been replaced?

If the gauge goes from zero to 3 when turning on the key, without engine running, and back to zero when the key is turned off... it's either a failing lower harness (most likely) or a failed sending unit.

It’s the 500e.
I’ll research my records from the seller to see about the harness replacement.
Has 105,000 miles one owner.
Any engine damage risk driving it with this gauge issue?

Try smacking the dash over the gauge cluster. You now, like old TV. There could be bad solder joint in your cluster if this will fix your issue.

Assuming oil pressure is normal and it's only a gauge issue, there's minimal risk.

Pretty likely the lower harness is original, but you can inspect the wires at the sending units & alternator, if insulation is cracked and falling off... you need to rebuild the harness. Kurth sells a repair kit, or you can contact Blue Ridge.

You know I just threatened to hit the dash hard and before I did it started working again.
The first of the smart cars!
I’ll be checking harness just in case it forgets how to act in the future….thx
