Transmission DTC 8 out of PIN 17...?

Today I checked my codes. Except for an ABS sensor on PIN 6 the only new code was on PIN 17. DTC#8. "Transmission overload protection switch (S65) does not close"..? Would this have been triggered by the recent transmission maintenance? Is this switch responsible for the transmission holding on to shift points.? Any insight really appreciated, transmissions are areas I tend to stay away from..

Thxz..

Replace the switch if you get that code, it doesn't cost that much, it was like 55€ or so the last time i quoted it here in germany.
If you leave it that way, Ignition will be retarded via EZL by some degree as a security measure above 4000RPM, which causes noticeable power-loss in that RPM-range.

Be glad you actually get a code from that switch, very often the switch is already totally broken and only very rarely sends out a code of malfunction.

Thanks Christian. Will do, what is the location of the switch to look up the p/n..? Interesting that these engines seem to have a lot of safety features roaming around the 4K rpm line.. What I have felt is the transmission tends to not want to shift past 5200 rpm, it holds on for a while until it jolts the shift..?

Hi, Part Numbers for 722.365 and 722.370 Gearbox:

Up to Number "365 3 559457" its Part-Nr: "A 003 545 25 14"
From Number "365 3 559458" its Part-Nr: "A 002 545 45 14"
It seems there is a little o-ring that needs to be replaced aswell "A 016 997 35 48" an if you are unlucky.

So if you already have gearbox 722.370 in it, Part Number is: "A 002 545 45 14"

What I have felt is the transmission tends to not want to shift past 5200 rpm, it holds on for a while until it jolts the shift..?
Very strange, never heard of something like that before.

I would recommend an oil+filter change in the gearbox, maybe flush it one time before you add the final filling. Then replace that overload-protection-switch and see what happens.
There a topic currently active describing the process of gearbox oil-change.

reviving old thread, but would older LH module have any impact on a 94 vehicle that uses the 92 LH?

I meant to ask, would the 92 LH module in my ride throw that ol open code?
Absolutely not. You either have a wiring issue, or a bad OL switch. Michael (samiam) posted a how-to on switch replacement, IIRC...?

:watermelon:

Saw that how to, read the email from yesterday and wanted to know if it was a electronic deviation that might throw the code. Shall see if it comes back and if it does, swap in a new one and inspect the wires for solder issues/cracks et al. I should state that if I did not pull the code, I would have no idea. I have ZERO performance issues and nothing to suggest there is, other than the code. I can redline thru the shift points and never an issue going 75-125 down the highway!

The code will be triggered at WOT upshifts, so check again after some full-throttle blasts. It will cause a slight hiccup in the shift, many people wouldn't know the difference unless they had a reference car available to compare to.

:pc1:
