Hi,
124.036, w/cabin filter. Heater ON (Southern Hemisphere winter).
Symptom:
At low rpm, such as during low speed cruising or idling, the A/C will be on, even though I'm requesting heat via the temp wheel. Compressor is cycling.
As soon as rpm's reach 1750-2000 or so, I hear a slight vacuum wheezing and cold air cuts off, restoring proper temp.
Fan seems to be louder than normal, prompting me to select low speed for proper ambiance, as though cabin air filters were clogged. They're not, having been recently replaced.
Inelegant Workaround:
Use economy mode switch in winter, disabling A/C.
Assumptions:
Rpm related indicates a vacuum issue.
Possible cabin temp sensor fan malfunction induces A/C to be on, even when cold? Not likely, as correct warm cabin temp is maintained at higher rpm's.
Questions:
Which pod effects the cold air cut-off?
Where can I MityVac to vacuum check?
Any other reasons for the A/C to be on?
As soon as I can get back over the mountain to the car, will do the rice paper test on the cabin temp sensor inlet.
Will also wield MityVac. Still have a few rubber connectors left over from a W123 vacuum repair.
In the meantime, will keep researching.
Thanks for all your help.
Andres
