I found some really helpful videos for workbench testing, troubleshooting and restoring the ETA for the M119.

Enjoy!

This looks like a throttle body thread...

I just located a used TB with a view to doing some tests as shown in the videos above, then repair as required so I have a spare.

I went looking for part number 000 141 7925.

The TB I found has part number VDO 408 225/3/198M01, the other number had gone from the sticker.

The last part of the VDO number says production was month 01 of 1998.

The 13 pin plug has part number 140 540 15 81 with pins 3 and 6 absent.

I think it is ASR compliant as the first 45 degrees of lever movement do not move the throttle plate.

Is this TB good for the 500E?

Yes, that is the correct ETA for an early 500E, through mid-1993 production (late 1993 model year in USA). Should be perfect for your 1991/1992 500E.

Thanks Dave,

The VDO number maps to MB P/n 000 141 7325 and not what I thought was "correct" vis. 000 141 7925 as far as I can see.

I am guessing that the difference could be something to do with the cable length?

WAIT - hold on a sec - sorry! I mis-read your post, thought you had found p/n 000 141 7925, which is correct for the 500E.

The number you have (000 141 7325) is for an early .970/.971 engine (W140), however it may still function ok in a 500E. I believe the only difference is that the W140 ETA has a longer cable.

Having surfed around I concluded the only difference I could see was the one I have seems to have a very long cable; that would fit in with it being from the larger bodied W140. The plug is the same with pins 3 and 6 absent.

While I was searching in the local souk I found a 500E in pieces with the engine out (overheated)...that had a VDO TB P/n was 408 225/3/3? and the engine number began 119 971. That gave the encouragement to get the one I found. (Sorry Gerry I did not get the VIN.)

The cable near the TB has 3 cracks in the sheath; I could get rid of that by re soldering the cable inside and making the lead the correct length. The build code being 0198 makes me think that this new to me TB is a replacement and will not suffer from the disintegrating insulation of the earlier ones.
