W124 Auto dimming mirror with on/off switch & amber compass display

I just built this particular mirror for my own car, so it is shown with an alarm LED (to parallel the factory in-dash alarm LED).

These types of mirrors are extremely hard to find, especially at a reasonble price! These also have a compass and the illumination has been changed from blue to amber. The on/off button allows you to turn the auto dimming on/off and you can also turn the compass on/off or any combination of the two options. When auto dimming is on, a soft green light illuminates (left of the power button) and when auto dimming is off, so is the soft green light.

Going to buld one more of these, so its being offered to the 500e community first. You can have it with or without an alarm LED and the compass illumination will also be changed to amber.

Price is $175 shipped in the US, international shipping is an additional $45.00.

As for the LED. It has an internal resistor, is non-blinking and is very flat (hence why it is mounted to the front of the mirror and not the bottom). It is also very bright.

The stalk is a factory W124 stalk and all wiring is routed internally to the stalk. My new mirrors also utilize Molex style quick disconnects for the power/ground and regular bullet style quick disconnects (for the optional alarm LED)

PM me if interested.

Really nicely done with the blue to amber change, that looks fantastic. Good luck with selling them, I'm sure they'll go quickly.

This particular auto dimming mirror has an integrated on/off function that controls the auto dimming AND compass. The item you linked to is a BASIC auto dimming mirror (no integrated controls and NO COMPASS). The one listed on German EBay I am very familiar with as I sell a ton of them AND not for $185.00, I sell the basic one for $100.00. So yes, that basic auto dimming mirror is not difficult to find, I have about 10 of them in stock right now. If you want one of those basic ones, let me know. Even with shipping, my basic auto dimming mirror will cost you less than the one on German Ebay.

I want it but I'd like to sell mine first. Anyone interested? Autodimming on/off + homelink, cheap! PM me.

Esteban, have u asked 2phast if he can do a deal - part exchange with your old one?? Of course cost of shipping might not make it viable , but at least you can return it in the same box :-D Rik, what do u reckon, mate??

Anything is possible but given the shipping charges and trade in value, it makes more sense for Esteban to sell his mirror locally.

Yes, I tried but shipping costs from Spain to the US are ridiculous. Nothing to do with the shipping costs FROM the US which are much more reasonable. Dave was interested but despite the low selling price the deal wasn't worthy. Shipping costs to Europe from Spain are cheaper so if someone in the old continent is interested I'm selling the mirror for 50 euro + around 30 for shipping.

Thanks for your interest, Bing!

Cheers,

Cheers,

I'm surprised Jelmer or 036 hasn't shown interest, or have they?

@JB u gotta have one of these , very practical and is in keeping with the original look.

036 told me "Pfff.. i´m not interested in this Kinderkram... ", I forgot to hit him for it, today.

My car actually already has this, I even think it's OEM. (It has a Off-min-max switch). No compass, though, but my personal opinion is that this feature looks too new for the cars and don't exactly follow the Mercedes-Style subtlety you find everywhere in the car.

That said: if you don't have a mirror like this yet, I would really recommend it.

2phast, would you mind sharing what mirrors you used as a basis? They do look similar to the one I had in my Toyota.

I got one from 2phast and happy with the look.

The "regular" 2Phast(TM) mirrors totally rock. I have them installed in my SEC and E500, and one of my next purchases will be to get a "special-order" R107 model for the 560SL....

Most all of the mirors I use are made by Gentex. Some by Donnelly. Most of the patents for these mirrors are the property of Donnelly and licensed by Gentex. There are not a lot of different designs per say, but there are many flavors of those designs. Toyota uses both Gentex and Donnelly mirrors, it just depends upon the model, so it wouldn't suprise me if your Toyota mirror is similar.

The factory W124 mirror is made by Gentex and is a first generation auto dimming mirror. The sensors used don't adjust the auto dimming according to the intensity of the light, hence why they have the min/max switch. Later generation mirrors would dim the mirror based on the intensity of the light detected.

Isn't Kinderkram a German Toy company?

Cheers,

I sell quite a few mirrors to Europe, so demand is high. If you can wait, the next interested buyer (from European country) that comes my way, I will put him in contact with you. You shouldn't need to discount the mirror much at all (assuming it isn't damaged).

Make sure that you inform any buyer that Homelink uses specific frequencies (286-399 MHz) and may not be compatible with European garage/gate openers (ones operating above 400 MHz)

This is Esteban's mirror in the attached picture.

Thanks for clearing that up. I never really took pictures of that car so I can't be sure, but it's probably the same unit, indeed.

What do you mean with
The sensors used don't adjust the auto dimming according to the intensity of the light
?
You say there si just one threshold at which point they switch to dark? I'm pretty sure it does go darker when cars are shining in my mirror, and back to fully reflection again when there's no-one behind me.

Ok, what I meant was the old style auto dimming mirrors have intensity settings (high/low) to adjust how dark the mirror gets. Newer mirrors use a different style of light sensor and electronics. These newer style light sensors detect how bright the light is from behind (far away or close) and dims the mirror a little or a lot. This is why you don't find intensity settings on any of the newer mirrors, its all automatic now.

Oh, what a shame! I'll be in for the next one. It wasn't a matter of money, I just felt like a fanciful girl and I needed to sell the current mirror to clear my conscience.

Anyway, thanks guys for your marketing efforts! :beerchug:

There seems to be a waiting list now, I will add you to it ;-)

I have another of these mirrors in transit and it should be here soon. Kind of back logged on orders though, so not sure exactly when I can get it built.

Also did a video documentary on one of my mirrors. Its my first shot at doing video and commentary ;-)

Nicely done video ! You could teach Kent Bergsma over at Mercedessource a few lessons :)

Have not seen any of his videos, are they not good?

I need to put together some "talking points" for my next video and not just "wing it" like I did on this one.
