W463 G320 Dec 1994 Wagon Filter Service Questions

Hi Folks,

Just wondered if anyone can advise if this model (Dec 1994) has an "Interior Cabin Air Filter". I went to my local Mercedes Garage and asked for all the filters I would need to service the car and they included a Cabin Air Filter (not cheap at 56.02 Euros + VAT). I think the part number is A463 830 00 18.

I have checked all the service and maintenance documents that Gerry kindly let me have but there is no reference to such a filter. I see on YouTube for other G-wagons that there is a filter and it is located behind the Battery. But on the G-320 there is no such filter container. The only area I see that has anything to do with providing air to the cabin is located dead centre under the hood but there is no filter in it and will not accept the filter I have.

Also, more worryingly, is I now have it confirmed that neither Mercedes or any of the other aftermarket manufacturers are producing or selling the Engine Air Filter. If anyone has one or can advise where I could get one then this would be appreciated. Otherwise it seems to me the car cannot be correctly serviced. The filter I refer to here is MB Part No. A003 094 8704 or aftermarket Part No. LX528 by Mahle or Knect. It is a single piece filter and dimensions are L-361mm, W-154mm and D-70mm.

I also found out that K&N have stopped supplying their version.

Really appreciate help on that one.

Regards,
CHL

W463 up to 11/2000 was never delivered with a cabin air filter. A couple of after market alternatives exist, such as ORC and Front Runner.
As you see, ORC have two versions depending on if you have AC or not.

Hi Kiato4,

Many thanks for this information. I have decided to try another route. I have purchased a specialist foam 1M x 1M from PiperCross Filters, based in the UK and Germany. I am going to try and carefully remove the paper from my original filter and insert an exact cut piece from the foam I bought. This foam is washable and can be reused many times. Since there is more than enough in 1M x 1M I can even replace them over time. It cost about 100 Euros, so more expensive than an original but in the long run works out cheaper. I will place the foam on the correct side of the metal so that it cannot be sucked into the engine.

This way I don't have to try and fit a new air box and everything stays original. I'll post a message once I have done it (hopefully I won't screw it up!!).
Cheers,
CHL
