W463 PPI Checklist?

Hi, y’all. I’m in the market for a g wagen, having identified late US market models with the M113(k?) motor and 722.6 transmission.

I’ve found a couple for sale which are of interest, one of which is out of state. I’m looking for a comprehensive pre purchase inspection checklist specific to the W463, to provide to a mechanic in Los Angeles, if anyone has a list or advice to share. Also, feel free to reach out if you have one for sale.

I’ve searched the forum and came up empty handed for a checklist. In addition to (or in lieu of) a checklist, recommendations for competent gwagen mechanics in the LA area are most welcome.

New member here and I realize this is an old thread, but I have a set of docs from a PPI a local dealer performed on a 2002 G500 (which I later bought) that caught some pretty typical W463 issues. If that would be of use to you, feel free to PM me.

Good idea! It is attached here. Some of this was clearly a dealer's attempt to spark some work out of the inspection (i.e., the shocks are fine - just older). so bear that in mind as you review. The oil cooler leaks are fairly common as I had this same issue with my W210 E55. Ironically, at the time, I was concerned that the oil dripping directly onto the alternator might somehow affect the life of the bearings inside; the alternator failed about 2 weeks ago in the recent cold snap here in the mid-Atlantic.

Thank you! The two Geländewagens I looked at ended up dead - one too nice, one too rough - and I picked up a low mileage facelift Designo S212 as a winter daily. Now that snow is melting in the Rockies and Wheelin’ Season is near…perhaps I’ll renew my search for a Gwagen!
