I am a pretty hardcore VW guy. Been a diehard since I first learned how to drive.

3 VW Corrados (2 G60's and 1 VR6) the VR6 is my daily driver, it's slammed with kw coilovers, exhaust and few euro goodies. Nothing else I've ever driven has but a smile on my face as much as this car.

2012 Golf TDI 6 speed as my other daily driver/girlfriends car

2009 rabbit
2001 740i with sport package
1982 scirocco
2000 jeep cherokee

Currently setting up the 92 500E to be daily driver friendly then it will be up for sale. Next up will probably be an E39 M5!

1980 Lancia Beta
1982 S123 230TE
1983 VW Jetta
1984 VW GTI 1.8 campaign model
1986 S123 230TE
1987 VW Golf 1.6
1989 Honda Accord
1994 W124 E500

Current:
1997 W140 S600

Plus various company cars from 1998 till present, Volvo S80 , BMW735i, Lexus LS430 and MB W210s/211s/220s/221s (current - W221 S350L Bluetech)

Had :

Year bought / (km or miles when sold)

1976 : BMW1802 (120k km)
1979 : BMW 323i (180k km)
1983 : BMW 732i (200k km) - end of my BMW phase - I was disgusted by the low quality of the early BMWs. Literally everything fell off. Great ride but $$$ repairs
1986 : MB 280SE (DOHC) (678k km) - One major repair on this one (waterpump), else super. A little weak @ low RPM though
1992 : Saab 900 turbo convertible (every man goes through a red convertible phase I have heard) (60k miles)
1994 : MB W124 400E (168k miles) (rust problems, I lived in Vermont back then)

Have :

1999 : 1994 E500 (577k)
2010 : 2002 E55 AMG (122k) (the "in case" car when the 500 says goodbye)
2005 : 1978 450SL convertible (roof detached permanently to mark it a true CA car, the worthy Saab successor although baby-blue, 225k miles). It mainly used for Sunday trips to Costco and the nurseries in SD county because we can transport trees in there with no roof........

I calculated that I have driven approx. 1.5 million lifetime miles; over a million thereof on two single cars (MB 280 + the 500)...that's why I stay faithful to the brand.

My wife and I are gypsies...can do everything except sitting still........

It would be a challenge for me. Probably 120 or more cars since 1969. I'll have to think about it and see if I can remember them all. The only ones that really stand out are the ones I never should have bought.

Mercedes 500E since 1998

................
Hello Roberto

You have had your 500E since 1998 - that must be among the longest ownerships here! :-)
And it was only 6 years when you got it, must have been a great moment.

I think Jimbo, and perhaps Glen and Need2Speed are also among some of the longest-term owners here on this site, as well.

Not that I'm OLD, but...

1964 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 - 429 "rocket" engine - "The Mouse" (that roared)
1973 AMC Hornet station wagon (parents thought I was having too much fun with the V8, apparently)
1973 VW Super Beetle which I restored, after burning up my boots kicking out an engine fire
1976 Ford Gran Torino, 351 Windsor. A coupe that was heavier than the 500E. Even the 351 couldn't get it moving.
1983 Renault Fuego Turbo - actually a nice driver's car for the era, but obtaining parts and service was a challenge. Turbo died, then got mercifully rear-ended.
1987 Ford Escort
1991 Chevy S-10 Blazer
1986 Chevy Camaro Z-28
1986 MB 190E 2.3-16 - first US-spec one imported. Featured in Car & Driver
2003 Honda Pilot
1993 MB 500E
2009 Honda Civic (mostly for my son to drive)
2012 Subaru Outback
2006 Mazda Miata Grand Sport

I'm sure that I'm missing some but here goes...

1973 Chevy Vega (1st car at 14)
1974 Datsun Pickup (1st car I lost money on, learned a valuable lesson)
1974 Ford Carpi (1st car I rebuilt with my dad)
1965 Ford Mustang
1969 Ford Mustang GT350 (Project car sold to collector for full restoration, man was it fun)
1970 Ford Mustang Fastback (1st low mile all original beauty)
1985 Mazda RX-7

I'm somewhat surprised to see that some on here have purchased Japanese cars in the past and how they ended up here.

I'm undoubtedly older than most on here but here's mine:

1. GM - mainly Chevrolet and Oldsmobile
2. Mercedes - W107 - end of domestics for me
3. BMW - in the 80s - 90s - 3 series, 6 series, 7 series.
4. Audi - A6 2.7T 6 speeds 2000 to 2008 -
5. Back to Benz W210 '98 Turbodiesel, W211 Bluetec, W212 E550 4matic.

I have always had SLs as collectors but not for everyday.
Started collecting 124s in '06 with my 500E and Cabrio.

91 Mazda
92 BMW 325i
94 Toyota Tercel 4 speed, no AC. I loved this car! It never let me down.
99 MB C280. Gave it to my folks and they loved it. They finally sold it last year.
00 Golf 1.8T. Nice motor. Iffy build quality.
91 Volvo 240DL. I loved this car too. So comfy and solid. And the turning radius was seemingly 0.
85 Citroen CX. Sensual Looking. But crap build quality. :-(
04 Prius
93 Volvo 940 Turbo Wagon. I loved this car again.
99 MB E320
06 Volvo V70R. I don't like this nearly as much as the old 940. Fragile electronics. Nice Turbo.
10 Prius - I've beat this to heck and back and I hate driving it but boy is it dependable and economical.
96 Porsche 911
93 MB 500E

Gonna end up buying a new car again soon once the Prius dies. Probably will end up buying some modern family hauler like a RAV4 or Mazda CX30 that's not too tough on the wallet.

Cliff Notes version: 1970-80's GM --> 1980-90's VW --> Mercedes, first W201, then W124.

I was never particularly into Asian stuff, although there are a handful now that are pretty impressive. Ditto for some of the current domestic offerings. I always liked other European cars but in general they (Porsche/Italian/etc) were far enough out of my price range that I never paid attention.

EDIT 1: my bike journey was shorter... 1992 FZR600 --> GSX-R750 (94, then 97) --> 2000.5 Aprilia RSV-R --> nothing since 2011. I'd like an MV Agusta or Bimmer RR but my bones aren't as rubbery these days. Not to mention there are too many muppets on the road who refuse to turn their phones o-f-f, OFF and pay attention to driving.

EDIT 2: Forgot to mention the trucks. Had an E350 cargo van for years, for hauling the GSX-R to the track, picking up lumber, Mercedes interiors, etc. Went a few years without a truck, then after Snowpocalypse happened in Jan-2017, we picked up a 2010 Land Rover LR4. Three years later, we are very impressed with the LR4 for its intended purposes: towing, hauling up to 7 full-size adults comfortably, having ~12" of ground clearance, AWD with low range for snow & offroading if needed. And, my wife drove it to a runner-up finish in the Street Truck championship in 2019 at the local dragstrip, winning multiple races along the way. I'm pretty sure we'd turn down a free G-wagen if someone offered that in trade. The LR4 really makes MB look bad in summertime, freezing cold AC at all times, with engine temps never even touching 100C despite idling in 100F ambients.

First car:
A 2004 Smart Roadster Coupe (a "Lotus on a budget"; totalled it after one year with small damage but very high repair costs)

Then:
1996 230 SLK (never seen salty roads, a super fun car); was bought by my father about 13 years ago with 60kkm, he gave it to my brother and me; still in posession with about 170kkm and without any problem
2018 white Smart car (winter and bad-weather daily driver); very cheap leasing car I gave back after one year and 13kkm without problems
2019 black Smart car (same as the white one, but in black); still in "posession" until probably October 2020
1994 E420 (bought in August 2019, work in progress); bought with about 204kkm, still has less than 205kkm
1993 E200 wagon (bought about a month ago, intended as replacement for the Smart car, still a "work in progress") about 285kkm

1970 Ford Maverick aside, a requirement in my household as a kid was that you learn how to drive in a VW Beetle. Dad was convinced that if you could drive a Beetle you could drive anything. I did drive my brother's Beetle before I was (legal) driving age, but a buddy of my Dad's had the 1970 Maverick sitting around that he made him a good deal on, so I got that as a first car. When I totaled it in a meeting with a tree during an ice storm, I got relegated to a Beetle.

As for the transition from VW to Fleetwood Series 60, the dad of a guy who I worked with had the Fleetwood from an estate sale and was looking to get rid of it, so I bought it. Great car., loved to drive it. A true land yacht. I've loved the Series 60 and 62 ever since.

And the gross tonnage on that car was 3. As in 6,000 pound curb weight when wet. This is it at my Mom's house next to the wife's Horizon TC3.

Funny thing on the Fleetwood Dan. My 74 Newport was my first car and like yours it slept 6! And bench seats made things quite easy. It dawns on me that the car had body work and it was plaid in color for a time. We painted it dark metallic green, similar to its original and oddly matching my malachite E500.
