Where to buy rotors and distributor cap

Caps... only Bosch, and OE MB is same as aftermarket. (Beru caps are NLA.)

Rotors... OE MB (Doduco) preferred ($$$), Bosch second choice ($$). Avoid Bremi/Facet. Beru is now reboxed Facet (details here).

Insulators... Bosch is the only brand available, OE is same as aftermarket.

FCP has lifetime warranty which might be worth the slightly higher up-front cost...

I wonder what it would take to return these parts as failed under warranty. My last set of rotors/caps were bad but I couldn’t see where. All I know is the new ones fixed what felt like running on four cylinders.

I suspect there would be an issue adding the extra slot on the caps—or a reason to reject a warranty claim.

Are we convinced of this? Some cowboys replaced my genuine MB cap and rotor with Bosch equivalents. 9 months later I opened it up and the cap was cracking around the rotor and the finish looked degraded. I binned the cap and rotor and replaced with MB originals - also Bosch.

This was in 2020 and I inspected the cap recently, after 4 years, and it looked as new aside from the usual electrode disclouring.

My feeling is that Bosch is not the same quality as MB/Bosch.

By the way, I still have the parts the cowboys removed. Cleaned up they look ready for service, if needed.

Just remembered. Both Bosch and MB Bosch parts were made in Spain. This in France so things may be different in the US.

Many years ago (like, 10-15 years ago or more?) the OE Bosch M119 caps had a clear lacquer (conformal?) coating that the aftermarket Bosch caps lacked. However, in recent years people have shown the OE caps are not visibly different than aftermarket. Is there some non-visible difference? Maybe, but I doubt it. AFAIK they are all currently made in Spain.

Rotors are a different discussion, the OE rotors are made by Doduco, have the clearcoat, and have bolt heads that properly fit a 3mm hex driver. Bosch rotors are not coated and have bolt heads which love to round out when using a 3mm hex driver. Cost for OE rotors is painful though.

Lock tight on rotor backing plate 5mm and rotor 3mm?
Yes, I use a drop of blue threadlock on those bolts. Don't need very much.

It's not common for these bolts to loosen and back out, but when they do, it tears up everything and makes a real mess.
