Interior lighting and door opening

Hello everyone.

I have a small question about my 1993 E420. Since I bought it four years ago, when I open any of the front doors the rear light (the one on the roof above the rear seats) comes on and it can't be turned off even if you press the button on the dashboard. I mentioned this to my Mercedes specialist mechanic and he told me it was normal. I don't believe him because I have a 1992 w124 280E in which when you open the front doors the light doesn't come on. Should this light come on? Should it not come on? Is the 280E bad and the E420 good? Is my mechanic right and I wrong? Does it only come on in the restyling models?

Best regards

My 1992 400E and 1995 E420 both work as described below:

When you open a front door, only the front light should turn on.
When you open a rear door, only the rear light should turn on.

Sounds like you are right and your mechanic is wrong... something is odd with your E420.

:scratchchin:

Thanks for the response.

Surely my mechanic doesn't feel like working. A shame, since he is a good mechanic.

I imagine that the previous owner of my E420 must have touched something and manipulated the original settings. What makes the light turn on? Any actuator placed on the door? I imagine a good electrician will put everything in its place.

There is a pin switch at each door jamb, this would be the trigger for the front/rear overhead lights.

You'll probably need to read the electrical schematics to figure out what the problem might be.

OK.I have done what you tell me, i have searched for them and i just downloaded the schematics for my 124.034 from an internet forum.

The same interior light also comes on (again the one above the rear seats) when I open the trunk lid. Is it like that or is it not right either?

Thanks for the answers.
