Window Regulator Slide Broken

The slide that connects to one end of the left front window regulator arm has broken and the part is not separately listed on the EPC (the sliding jaw/damper between the window run at the rear and regulator vertical rail is available as part 126 720 00 42). Rather than look for a new (used) regulator, has anyone tried to glue this piece or use a substitute for it?

Thanks @nocfn ! I think that's what I'm looking for. You likely fished out the part that keeps the window from slapping on the vertical rail when you close the door or roll up the window (126 720 00 42). I was considering modifying that to use as an alternative, because it has a similar construction. Actually, it was this part that broke first about five years ago and I never replaced it because I couldn't figure out how to install it. I ordered the part and figured out tonight how to install it, but noticed the broken slide on the regulator leg when I pulled the inner door panel off. It was very likely the absence of 126 720 00 42 (the part shown below) that caused the regulator slide to break.

Anyone have a promo code for PartsGeek?

This is the chicken or the egg no doubt. If you install the slap preventor one might consider just pulling the whole thing, cleaning and lubing the unit and installing both pieces or just buy new regulator and do the process once in your life.

Jon, I don't think the regulator can be repaired reliably. The R&R is not fun and I wouldn't want to repeat the job if when the repair breaks. At ~$110 for a new OE regulator (124-720-03-46), I'd shell out for new. It should last another 30 years. Another option is a good used one, but make sure all the teeth are undamaged before purchase/installation. Raiding from junkyards isn't fun as it's double work and some used ones will be junk.

The sliding block 126-720-00-42 is a very common failure. Make sure to ONLY use OE/Genuine (~$11 each from discount dealers). The aftermarket ones don't fit properly and can break while attempting installation - don't ask how I know.

Final note, I'm not a fan of PartsGeek, and they rarely have the best prices on anything. I only buy from them if it's an item no other vendor has, or they somehow have a much better price. Check out RME, FCP, and AHAZ first. For the regulator, AHAZ appears to have the lowest price with shipping. FCP is a bit more and has lifetime warranty, but the regulators are marked "on promotion" at MB Classic, which smells like NLA is on the way soon. Or get the OE from a dealer like Covington:

Yes just replace the whole regulator. I am running low only have about 40 spare at present including NOS (Also NFS) :slosh:

Most parts yards here are about £10 per reg so when I see I well cared for car coming in with all original regulators on it I pull the set

Received the factory regulator today. I noticed it was lightly pre-lubed with some yellowish grease. I'll probably use Gleitpaste for additional lube, unless someone can suggest a better product or a reason not to use Gleitpaste.

@emerydc8, I’ve had to put all 4 WDW regulators in my wife’s 2005 Cadillac. They all came lubed and ready to go.

Yours should have no problem just installing with the pre-lube provided.

Just my opinion:)

lol
