thank you so much :)yes quite abit of time and money went into the car since i bought it 2.5 months ago.starting to get there really.Ordered myself a new batch of shiny parts today..and looking forward to getting my hands on em :)


seems like your "driving" season is just the same as here in Norway (Norge :) from around april to October MAX....as they salt the roads..and its NO GOOD for an old car which is not totallyyy rust free...or any car for that matter.
my 500e is never going to see more winter roads at least not in the time i own the car :)

the same with my Ford Focus Rs....that one is mint condition.so that car definetly does not enter the winter roads :)
I clean that car even underneath...with a TOOTBRUSH :)..and if you could turn the car upside down..you could use the car as a plate and have your food on it :)hehe.

.....at least we have warm garages where we can keep our babies and talk to them for 6 months before the spring comes again...:D
To be honest the salt is not only killing the body, it causes problems in every section that is under the car. As my 500E previous owner didn ´t care about the local weather, I struggled with the wheel bearings exchange yesterday evening until the midnight. All the bolts and fastenings had such a corrosion that the main working tool was a medium sized hammer. I spent 3 hours for changing one rear bearing and I found out, that the whole hand brake system must be also replaced :D:spend:

hehehe yeah...good to have the babies in storage..and we go around for six months and drool on the cars..and waiting to get them out for next season :)i kinda love that feeling when you just see the car sitting there...ready to come out in the spring :)

yeah the salty roads does all kind of bad things to the cars..not just the rust on the body like you said..even all components under the car is affected..and its not good to see a car that has not been cleaned and just been driven in all weather condition through all of its life...

your car looks very good by the way.are you happy with it to this point ?

Yes, I truly am happy, even when I know well that the car will take a lot of more cash out of my pockets, than the price I paid for it :).
I do agree, that on pics it looks already quite good, but the work list is still long. There are many things that needs to be replaced with new ones to make it beautiful also when looking closely. Finally it must be repainted as I'm not entirely satisfied with the previous owner repainting.
....but still, I cannot imagine my summer seasons without one nice and smooth, but also totally crazy 500E anymore:p and I must say this loud "500E IS THE BEST COMBINATION OF HOBBY CAR I HAVE EVER HAD!" :jono:

Even my wife, generally with very high demands in everything and previously only new cars lover, respects the money spending to this car and enjoys every km of the cruise we have. So, this 500E is truly a miracle even 25 years later!:p

well...our cars are never done are they...hehe always stuff to upgrade or whatever it may be..to make it even better or stand out from the crowd.so i see your point :)

I have actually ordered myself some new parts..and they arrived today.and picking them up tomorrow..so looking forward to that..and some picture updates will follow :)

A little update from Norway :)

Ive got some more parts today..and i thought to add this on the thread so you people can have a look.
I actually filmed the whole "event" too...but uploading that tomorrow..so a few pics will do for now.:)
Its the Can Box cover...the old one had the paint coming off..and i just bought a new one..most because of the price..and that it was actually available :)
Im loving small detail work to enhance the look of the car..and in this case..the engine bay ..looks miiiiiles better i think :)

So, how did you get the base of windshield mono-wiper looking so new?

i apreaciate your kind words :)yeah a lot of work has gone in to the car since i got it..and starting to pay off now :)

The mono-wiper cover is painted in the same color as the car..but all the plastic,the "grills" and such below the windshield,,,they are freshened up with alot of cleaning and polishing ,so it actually looks like new now,and that was my goal :)so im glad thats shining through

I was abit tired yesterday..so i obviously did not pay attention to the super bad quality on the last update pictures..i see now that they sucked actually :)

Here are some pics of the work in progress reparing the crack in the A pillar :)
First of all..cover up the engine bay with a welding blanket...so no weld droplets or grinding dust gets to where it shouldnt :)

Then grind of all paint and body sealant to reveal the whole crack.
Ive marked the problem area with the red ring and arrow :)

Then a break to just stand and enjoy the view :)hehe

And last but not least...welded and put some body sealant on the whole area as i want to make shure no water gets inside the weld ,yeah just to seal it of properly :)

Doesnt look that pretty with the body sealant..but the paint is not on still...as i want it do be completely dry before putting paint on top..aaaaand in the end its not that visible,,but it does look abit better in real life than on the picture because of the bright light making it look so glossy,,and makin the surface stand out abit to much than it does when its more "matt" finish.

hehe yeah man..it did :)in some way ..even if the saying is that the weld can crack...i am somewhat amazed that it was actually this that was makin the sound ...as it seems soooooo much that it comes from inside the car..its like you can "touch" the sound when you are sitting inside the car...so...

but yeah..it is definetly fixed..so im happy pappy tappy :)

The first label was most likely attached behind the rightside carpeted trunk liner panel next to the battery compartment.

"Georg Naeher" is a Company that deals in carpet & textiles. This Company produced the carpeted trunk liner panels for these cars.

The second label contains most of the same information as the car's datacard. It was originally attached to the bottom right underside of the car's parcel shelf sheetmetal (inside the trunk).

Oh. What is on my e500!from previous owner is the potenza brand. I have Michelins in the garage for swapping.
 
anyone have any suggestion on how much i can space out these wheels without having rubbing issues.?
it seems that the 245 40 18 is the tire size to go for....i will experiment with the offset when i get some tires on the wheels..but if someone knows or have good suggestions on how much i can go without rubbing issues..i would be happy to hear it from ya :)

:hornets: Why not try driving your car for a while at the correct offset, and then see how palsied and stupid it feels at the an incorrect offset? Why do people think that wheels flush with the fenders, or even worse, sticking past them looks good?

The whole reason that ever got thought of as a "looking good" was because people thought that it looked like they did something "custom", but what most people did was in fact never anything even remotely "custom" Their new "custom" wheels stuck out there because they weren't actually "custom" anything. If they were, they would fit inside the damn fenders like they're supposed to! What they were actually doing was getting some rich guy's take offs from a much newer vehicle requiring lower offset wheels from the back of a tire store somewhere. Just like when a lie is repeated often enough that everyone starts to believe it, even the guy that invented the lie, that ridiculous look was seen so often that people actually started to think of it as an "upgrade". Now, people actually seek it out. Unbelievable. Like paying good money for quality blue jeans that have been pre-ripped and sprinkled with battery acid.
It's subliminal double-reverse "poverty chic"...

I love everything else you have done, but your wheels are supposed to reside well inside the fenders, that's with the whole set up is designed for...

yeah i see what you mean...and i will try of course without doing anything to the offset,it was more of a question of "how much" you could go before having rubbing issues.
and i DO want the wheels to be abit more flush push tush to the wheel arches..but not just for the sake of it..so yes..will try the wheels as they are:)

Seems so that today i have decided on tires also..does the 245 40 18 dimension tires work the best on the 8 inch wide rim?or should i go "narrower"?
