FYI - Parts orders from MB Naperville - Free shipping with code 500EPROMO

It's likely the lug bolts, qty 20. Try reducing that to qty 1 and see what happens with shipping costs. I've found that "large" quantities of some items spike the ship quote.

Remember those lug bolts are plain, short-head, gray-coated bolts. No decorative cap, and it won't sit flush with the wheel face. If your 400E still has the original lugs, clean those up & re-use 'em!
Dave, thanks again for saving me $100. I'll be keeping my original lug nuts

UPS driver just knocked on my door, about the lost wheel (that was actually delivered on Monday, and is in my possession), saying he is supposed to have it in his truck for today's delivery, but somehow it's lost again, because he doesn't have it. How are they (UPS) not imbeciles? :alien::alien::alien::saucer::alien::alien::alien:

Thing is, at least for now, it appears UPS has lost 4th wheel. It cleared customs along with the other 3 and... and then disappeared into the ether:skull:
@kiev! We are brothers! The EXACT SAME THING is happening to me right now!
I just bought four wheels. Three of them cleared customs and went from Narita to Anchorage.
The fourth one ----- seems to be LOST. WTF?

The lost fourth wheel looks like this:

The other three wheels look "normal" like this:

Aren't they animals? Hopefully everything will be fine. My 4th wheel flew a few times between north American and European continents, but eventually, 7+ days later made it to me.

Let's see picture of the wheels you bought 🙂

Haha. I am still waiting for the 4th one to show up. I bought set of these wheels as spares .... or in case I ever get a Spruce Green or Perlmuttgrau prefacelift 500E to complement the red one.

Beautiful wheels. The most perfect design for W124, in my opinion. I take it, you've decided to short change hungry kids in Africa by not donating full proceeds from the Volvo sale? 😄

is everything ok with Gerry? we have not heard from him in a while.
I hope so. He started a new job in late March (?) but the last communiqué I received was April 5th.

The forum claims he logged on this morning, so he may just be swamped at work.

😟

Luckily I just heard from the honch yesterday! @gsxr is right - honch started a new slave position, excuse me, job, and then took a vaca and he should be back here in MB land soon!

At least for MB Annapolis, their parts guy told me that they DO NOT USE the quoted price on their web site for shipping, because it quotes standard UPS shipping rates, instead of the FedEx rates that all MB dealers and MBUSA uses. I mentioned this in a previous post. Realistically MB Annapolis told me that their shipping rates would be around one-half of anything that you would see quoted.
I hope you are right about MB Annapolis -- I just ordered the top-end emission/vacuum hoses (all but the ETA hose because I have two) and the estimated shipping was $120! Even $60 would be a bit high for these small hoses. Hopefully a human being will intervene at some point in the process.

Let me know what it comes to. If I need to intervene with Eddie, the parts manager there, please let me know. He should dramatically reduce that shipping quoted price via UPS.

Folks, I've placed a couple of orders recently with MB Annapolis where I found their shipping charges to be high plus they started adding a ~$3 handling fee. Anybody else experience the same?

I've since taken Dave's advice and started using MB of Laredo ( mbpartsource.com). Found their shipping costs to be quite reasonable with no handling fees and their parts prices slightly cheaper than MB Annapolis. Also prompt order processing and shipping. Their default warehouse is in Texas which is a plus.

Regards,

Peter Weissman

Just an update to provide. Very soon, Bob from Naperville will be making a post here regarding the staffing, service levels and changes going forward. No doubt in my mind, Bob and his team are dedicated to serving the needs of our forum. Understanding that some may have local arrangements that are premeier, his focus is on the group at large. So, working through the Nuance of pricing, alternative shipping methods and the return of forum preferred shipping prices. Stay tuned, I think the masses here will be happy with what you read.

Hi everyone, It's Bob from MBoemparts/MB of Naperville. For those of you who don't know me, I'm the Parts Director here and I'm the one who set up and maintains MBoemparts.com. While running the web site is just part of what I do on a daily basis, MBoemparts is my baby. I created it and I want to see it grow and thrive, but I also have to change it's diaper occasionally. I had to change it's diaper a lot in 2020. In March of last year we lost 3 of our very good employees relating to Covid. I spent several month as the only one that could process internet orders. It affected our level of service and completely wore me out. While other aspects of our dealership parts business slowed, our internet business did not. Good news is that we now have 3 new seasoned Parts Pros handling our internet, and they are processing orders faster than we ever had.
Now let's talk about shipping costs. I don't like the way they're calculated, and neither do you. Last year we had to make adjustments to our shipping promo, and I didn't like that either. When we give free shipping on a $20 order it costs us any profit plus.
I want to create another free shipping promo, that would have a minimum $ order amount such as $100. Do you all think that's fair, and would you use it? Our part prices are already very competitive with all the other dealers out there, so free shipping would be a bonus.
I would appreciate all comments, and thank you all for your orders over the years!
Bob

Good to hear you held through the tough times and are back to running strong.

Cant tell you how many times I wanted to order parts there but god discouraged by high shipping costs.

I would definitely use that promo of free shipping on 100$ + orders

Yes, absolutely..High shipping costs have served to dilute the value of shopping through dealer networks in general v smaller "original" MB parts distributors especially when adding the actual "order received" date, at least in my experience. Thanks for your efforts.

Bob, thanks for posting up! I have ordered from mboemparts a few different times now. The offer of $100 + free shipping is certainly a great promo to offer and it would certainly draw me to order more from your site. Thank you for thinking of the board and providing this for us.

Bob, yes, I think requiring a $100 order minimum to qualify for free shipping is completely fair. Thanks for considering this option!

Also good to hear you have the business mostly back to normal now. Last year was rough for a lot of folks... here's hoping the soothing light at the end of the tunnel is not just a freight train coming our way. :ROFLMAO:

:cheers2:

Bob, you probably don't remember me but I met you in person at your parts counter in May/2018. I was there to drop off a grille that I was returning. At the time, I was driving from Chicago to Vancouver (home). I appreciate what MBoemparts offered over the years and will maintain my loyalty. I am pleased for your update and your latest revision in regards to shipping costs is more than fair. Thx again!

Bob, I don't want you to know the total amount I've spent at mbeomparts if you looked me up, but I am very happy to hear of the return of free shipping such that it works for your business as well. Looking forward to my next order or carefully accumulating a list of parts to hit the $100 minimum for free shipping. Now if you could only fix some of the No Longer Available parts for me!

@MBoemparts Bob - It is great to see that you are back with a business model that is a win / win for both you, Naperville MB, and your customers. I don't know who is on your team these days but I do wish you and the team and Renee all the very best. Also, please don't look up the amount of $$$ I have spent @ mboemparts.com because I do NOT want to know! 🤣

Hi Ricardo. I know you've spent a ton with us, and I greatly appreciate it. I think this promo will work for everyone. I wish I could fix the NLA part situation too!

I promise I won't look, but I greatly appreciate all the business you have sent us over the years. Think of it as an investment. That's what I tell my wife when I buy new fishing stuff.

Glad this is now explained by Bob.

Another item on the shipping calculations. UPS rates based on MB supplied weight and box dimensions determined by size of item. Maximum carton weight rating is quoted. This is a revolution parts issue. That is why your 2lb item comes in a crazy long box based on specs when in fact it arrives in a 12x9x4 box with a 10lb max weight. The software thought it should be 24x14x9 box with a 25lb max carton strength. I get bolts in a 4x4 box often that were $16 quote for shipping and it was really $9 on my CC bill. It may take a day or two longer, but when possible it is most likely better for Naperville staff to box up items rather than a drop ship - that is where I get boxes that are very large relative to the item shipped. All things considered, we are billed for actual cost on shipping and not the inflated one. Plan your purchases and get the order price up to get free shipping when you can.

Thanks for supporting the crew at MB of Naperville. Jeff Martin is still there (you had to be around the parts dot com days before Bob came in) but the new internet team is on the job. Renee did not return to the team after the C19 issues. Bob you are free to correct anything I have posted here.

That's a pretty accurate assessment. The problem is that there really isn't a good way to accurately quote shipping price during the order process. On some orders we make a few dollars and lose some on others. That was one of the reasons I decided on free shipping.
For you veteran forum members, Jeff is still with us, but he isn't involved with our internet department. Renee took leave when Covid started and decided not to return. She has pursued other interests. I have been at this store since 2011. I was actually involved in the decision to bring parts.com to Naperville while I was at one of our other MB stores. I was also the one who called out the problem with p.com in 2014 which resulted in us creating our own web site (we were a 3rd party vendor for p.com and had to follow all their rules)

Same system, same parts, why can't they both be reasonable? I don't get it... Not every order is above $100,

The other vendor has 2 additional ship options. I'm not sure if Naperville could implement those or not?

Just a note on logistics: Naperville is the sole supplier to virtually every MB dealer in 6-7 states in the mid-west, let alone indy shops. Laredo is a very small outfit relatively speaking. FT Worth is the supplier for TX and OK. Not apples to apples on a volume of supplies. Sooner or later, Laredo will adjust to the market or it will no longer be a internet retailer. Just an opinion 🐯

It looks to me to be a pretty common thing in the parts-revolution platform to be able to offer multiple shipping options.
For example, here is an example of an order I have going for my sport-beetle from a dealer from Oregon who is also a parts-revolution site. There are four tiers, of which the first is a free-tier.

Looks like a human intervened today. Thanks Gerry.

@MBoemparts

Would you be able to figure out if a specific part is still available for a specific Mercedes?

The dealer would say no for sure on this part and I have checked before. I'm wondering if you know some other ways to find out.

I've heard of people finding stashes of "NLA" parts at some dealers before.

I've heard of people finding stashes of "NLA" parts at some dealers before.
Only way to find out is to call a dealer and have a live person check worldwide inventory via Parts-R-Gone, an internal MB dealer computer database. Right, @Klink ?

There's no way to confirm online, but if MBCC shows NLA and has been that way for a year or longer, chances of ever finding one is slim to none.

:klink:

A mbworld member recently found dozens of factory c43 amg floor mats and bought them all..listed them all on ebay for 350 plus a set.

I am after w202 c43 factory seat covers

Did he buy them from a dealership? It's unlikely any dealer would have that many laying around.

If you mean the seat leather covers... you're going to be waiting a long time for a factory set to appear. I've never even seen OE factory leathers for a 124. Contact GAT/GAHH in SoCal for the C43 leathers.

Yep from the dealer but it might have been in Canada.

Who is GAT/GAHH?

Do you have more information?

Yes the two tone front seat covers.

Those are 2 different companies specializing in leather covers. Details here:

ADMIN EDIT: Further discussion of seat leather has been moved to the thread linked above.
