124 differential parts availability

I have a 1986 124 300E that had a hard life. The rear diff was making a lot of noise and getting very warm to the touch after a short (10 miles) down the road. Tore it down and all the bearings are worn badly and the spider gears and pin are worn badly. Is it my imagination or are these parts hard to come by? Autohaus and Pelican carry next to nothing. Spareto in Europe wants an arm and a leg for one spider.

@palebird,
Why don’t you try to find a good used differential in a wrecking yard? Even if you find all of the parts to rebuild yours. Chances are it will still whine or be noisy. There would be a better chance if you found a low mileage (say 100K or less to 150K) used diff that you could just swap in.

Just a thought.

Good Luck
