I've been looking at these 3.4 when they come up for sale. Would love to own a manual coupe but certainly don't mind wagons. If there are any owners here, how has your experience been with these cars? Any guesses on the red buttons?

Not much out of line here, except the listing says its a 91 model, although the build sheet and AMG inclusions in the build sheet clearly confirm its a 1992 model. One picture shows a 85-91 steering wheel, but other pictures show the 390 mm Sportline steering wheel

One is a Clifford alarm LED. Red button is most likely the alarm bypass, get in the car, put key in ignition, press red button. Backup plan if you lose your remote. Note sure what the black button next to the LED is though

There's a mix of hardware that's either painted over, brand new, or corroded.


I suspect there may have been some corrosion to say the least. The floor looks to be undercoated as it's quite uniform and the mentioned dry ice blasting may have removed some loose/flakey bits. Would've loved to see what's actually underneath.


Some overspray on the exhaust heat shield. Perhaps the corroded muffler was an eye sore without being under the vehicle.

Yeah, all that needs to be relocated, or replaced with (custom-modified) factory switchgear. As-is, they are visual warts that hurt my eyes.

Otherwise, it's a neat car, but as WDB noted above, the undercarriage coverup is concerning.

Spot on, looks like someone hit the rear components with a spray can when it was in the air, but did not bother with the bits further back. It also looks like the rear diff might be seeping a bit as well.

Shouldn't the engine serial number match on these 990/957 cars? When decoded the serial number shows 019574 but seller attached 022335.
022335 is also found in WDB1240911F175256 and WDB1240511B458992.

On later cars with code 957, yes, it's my understanding the engine serial should match.

This 340TE is a pretty early "factory" AMG build, Dec-1990. I don't know if the engine serial will normally match the datacard serial on something this early, even with code 990.

That's a fair point, may just be due to it being a very early build but it's such a coincidence that the serial number is from another 990 3.4L.

There is no way to do this except to click on each photo. It is time consuming, but necessary to document the cars.

Add this Google Chrome extension: Image Downloader - Imageeye

Click on the extension and now you'll see every single image on the webpage. In this case there's 1000+ so we'll need to filter.

Open one of the images and copy a portion of it's URL. We will first filter by this URL.

Down to 605 images. You'll notice there's the thumbnail then the full image so now we can filter by size. In this case I did 1000x1000.

Down to 294 which looks about enough.

You'll notice these are WEBP format. Click on the gear icon and check the box to convert to JPEG.


Select all and download! It will take several minutes.

I had tried to use one of those extensions, some time back, but it didn't work very well. I do have a batch converter on my computer for webp images, but the next version of Xenforo (version 2.3) will have native webp display, so this will be a moot point in the future.
