I have sent a e-mail to Stuttgart now and hope for the best.

Re: FS: 1991 500E, 432 Bison braun/ 273 Brasil , 239 000kmi, EUR 29 900 (Stuttgart)

I've never seen that color before and it's not on the paint code list.

Re: FS: 1991 500E, 432 Bison braun/ 273 Brasil , 239 000kmi, EUR 29 900 (Stuttgart)

432 is known as "Havana Brown" in North America, I think...

:pc1:

Re: FS: 1991 500E, 432 Bison braun/ 273 Brasil , 239 000kmi, EUR 29 900 (Stuttgart)

Fantastic combo. In the ad it says "sonderfarbe" which could indicate a special order when new. Crazy price though, for that kind of monies I would want a 100% original car, this one's got facelift hood, lights, indicators and trunk lid. Shame really. But I love the Brazil interior!

Re: FS: 1991 500E, 432 Bison braun/ 273 Brasil , 239 000kmi, EUR 29 900 (Stuttgart)

Wiki paint code page indicates one 432 car worldwide.

I've never seen that color before and it's not on the paint code list.

That's not right. You can find color code 8432 in the table, but without a name.
And only one car is ordered in that color (as special order)... easy to find in EPC: WDB1240361B549216

Re: FS: 1991 500E, 432 Bison braun/ 273 Brasil , 239 000kmi, EUR 29 900 (Stuttgart)

I think we found the VIN! Now that's a real "one of one" car, lol...

Ok so that justified the price a bit :)

Re: FS: 1991 500E, 432 Bison braun/ 273 Brasil , 239 000kmi, EUR 29 900 (Stuttgart)

The price just went up.

How now brown cow.

Perhaps a UPS executive over there order it like that ?

Re: FS: 1991 500E, 432 Bison braun/ 273 Brasil , 239 000kmi, EUR 29 900 (Stuttgart)

It looks like the owner must have been pretty heavy by how the seat is sort of crushed and the radio has been replaced. Beautiful car though.

That is pretty close to the UPS standard. Or as we say in Sweden: "skitbrun"

It looks like the owner must have been pretty heavy by how the seat is sort of crushed and the radio has been replaced. Beautiful car though.

Yeah i thought of that to and the interior looks a bit worn.

And, as Doolar points out it is so sad that the car is facelifted when it´s a pre facelift. But the fact that it is so rare makes it worth rebuilding back to original. But i think it is hard to get that price for the car. It should be if a person (read me) is so attached with the rarity that he/she think it is worth it.

Re: FS: 1991 500E, 432 Bison braun/ 273 Brasil , 239 000kmi, EUR 29 900 (Stuttgart)

That is the real Limited not those mass production 500 cars in 009 and 744, lol.

I think this color combo will be nicer in the stock pre face lift look with black bumpers impact. By the way what the cladding color supposed to be with this top ? I am sure it has to be two tone .

Facelifted with the smoked tail lights makes it look like a freshly painted Mexican style car. IMHO

Re: FS: 1991 500E, 432 Bison braun/ 273 Brasil , 239 000kmi, EUR 29 900 (Stuttgart)

Agree. I'd like to see it with the black bumper strips and original parts. I don't think there is a matching lower color since it's special order. What a fantastic color. I'd also like a black or cream interior with this one.

That poor and lonely black steering wheel, the wood shift knob isn't helping either. This car needs a wooden steering wheel like no other...

Re: FS: 1991 500E, 432 Bison braun/ 273 Brasil , 239 000kmi, EUR 29 900 (Stuttgart)

I got a long and interesting e-mail from the owner:

"Hi Johan,

I´am sorry - the guy who should have updated my advertisment at AUTO SCOUT24 hasn´t done it yet.
I hope that I can send you the missing photos within the next days. You asked for the VIN-number. I think
you mean the "Fahrzeug-Ident-Nummer" formerly chassis-number, which is WDB 124036 18549xxx - but
that doesn´t tell you anything about the colour.

But as since more than 45 years all my cars have been brown and since 1986 all 432 bisonbraun metallic
with dark brown leather 273 brasil

You certainly know that the early 500E´s were manufactured at Porsche and only in two colours, mainly
blueblack and champagne. I worked really hard to persuade Mercedes and Porsche to build a bisonbraun
with brasil leather for me. But as I know Prof. Hubbert quite well (we are members of the same golf club) and the Porsche
family are good friends of mine - I succeeded.
The only problem was the delivery. I should have got one of the first 500E in February/March 1991, but because
bisonbraun was taken off the colour menue the delivery was delayed to end of June. I took delivery 26.06.1991.

So my car is the one and only in bisonbrown with leather brasil and the first with the so called "Reiserechner"- even
the Mercedes branch in Stuttgart had no idea what that was.

Now back to the car. It has 239.000 km on the clock. 2004 with 185.000 km I had a total overhaul of the engine and gearbox
for nearly € 17.000 and 2012/13 I had the car more or less rebuilt for another round about € 14.000. December last
year I made a DEKRA Youngtimer suryey. The car is visual and mechanical in perfect condition and running order.
I doubt that you will find a better 500E - and this is a unique one.

You have to see it - it´s worth a trip from Sweden to Stuttgart. If you buy the car I will pay for your flight, hotel
and will invite you to the Mercedes and Porsche Museum with lunch at the famous Christopherus restaurant.

If you have any further questions don´t hesitate to ask

Best regards

Yours sincerely"

Back window is gone, strange buttons inside, facelift trimmed, terrible rear lights.....what did they do to a car for 30000 plus Euros????

and couple of burned buttons ( white circles shows wrong bulbs, too hot).....
What VIN, finally?

Re: FS: 1991 500E, 432 Bison braun/ 273 Brasil , 239 000kmi, EUR 29 900 (Stuttgart)

All I can see is easy to change parts(lights,bonnet,trunk,..) and a bit repairs(seat cushion, rear window).

The story behind the car and the repairs make it interesting, although a bit too high priced.

Oh, really? To get this car back in proper condition ( Mopf1) you´ll need a lot of changes and complete repaint.

Re: FS: 1991 500E, 432 Bison braun/ 273 Brasil , 239 000kmi, EUR 29 900 (Stuttgart)

Painting lower claddings and bumpers makes it a full repaint?

no, it makes an Arlekino :D:D:D
( hope you know which VW i mean)

ps Didn´t you forgot trunk and hood? If repaint- than complete.

I remember these VW special editions, was it "Golf Harlekin" and "Polo Harlekin"?

Re: FS: 1991 500E, 432 Bison braun/ 273 Brasil , 239 000kmi, EUR 29 900 (Stuttgart)

Strange that this well connected individual states there were only 2 colors mainly, and no mention of the #1 color for .036s; the 199.

Not sure what was so hard about getting the car done in brown from the factory either ; special ordering exisiting factory colors from MB is pretty easy...if you have the means to pay for it.

I would have certainly kept that car if I was that man...

I thought of that to but i don't know if he meant the model year 1990? Maybe it just was 2 colours available at the start?

Re: FS: 1991 500E, 432 Bison braun/ 273 Brasil , 239 000kmi, EUR 29 900 (Stuttgart)

He mentioned "blueblack" as one of the two main paint colors, this is the Euro name for 199 Pearl Black.

It looks like it may have Hella smoke tails, which look far better than stock, IMO. Not sure about the weird red lights below the tails, maybe those are stick-on reflectors which could be removed. I personally like the facelift, but that does hurt collector value... not that a car with nearly 250kkm is in the "collector" category. At least the facelift was done properly (front + rear), although I can't tell from the photos if it has the correct E500 headlights... look suspiciously like standard 124 lights. The trip computer is a nice bonus. I'm guessing the extra switches in the console are related to ASR defeat and something else (appears to be 2 aftermarket switches?).

Regardless, it would be pretty cool to have one of the few 036's that was a "1 of 1" paint color, worldwide... which reminds me, what ever happened to the lemon yellow car...?

You should have seen the driver's seat of Jonathan Winter's 500E . . .

Dave - that one-and-only #216 Signal Yellow car is a long gone story, or more correctly the color is. IIRC it was sold to Germany and recolored by the new owner. :-(

I guess TaxiDriver or some of the other Sweeds has more info on that.

:offtopic: We are derailing the topic a bit, I know, but I like to mention my connection to that very nice 355 Diamond Blue 500E. Back in 2006 when I joined 500Ecstasy this car was owned by a nice Serbian guy living in France. I tried to persuade him to sell the car to me, but he refused. However, we kept contact on Email and PM, and one year later he sent a link to a sales prospect on AutoScout24 - and that was the SuperMerc! So that Diamond Blue car lead me to the ownership of my SuperMerc. Later on he lost his job and was regretfully forced to sell his Diamond Blue 500E. A French doctor bought it as a daily driver, but late 2008 he decided to sell and he contacted me and offered the car. The car was very clean with approx. 170kkm, but I had to refuse and lost track on it after that.

Interesting car. But face-lifted front & Rear and it needs more attention to details.
Why does it have a city/highway horn button ?

Maybe just for filling up the row of switches, the two switches on each side of the hazard switch doesn't belong eiher.
