http://www.ebay.com/itm/1992-Mercedes-Benz-500-Series-500E/201916850006 <-- Auction ends May 12, 2017. No reserve.

THE OVERVIEW
Offered for an appreciating new owner at NO RESERVE is this classic 1992 MERCEDES BENZ 500E SEDAN!
Finished in garnet red metallic over tan leather, this unique classic W124 Benz has been driven about 11,000 miles per year [just over 264,600 miles total] since new! It sports a great running original Porsche-collaboration 322 horsepower V8 engine mated to the 4 speed automatic transmission, COLD A/C, electric windows and sunroof, electric leather seats, chromed factory alloy wheels with excellent rubber and newer cd stereo. It is being sold with clean and clear title, accident-free Carfax report and April 2017 registration.
THE BODY AND TRIM
The exterior of this car is in fair condition cosmetically. The good news is that it is 99.9% dry rust-free! The not-so-good, as clearly seen, is that the paint is a bit of a hot mess. Lots of fading, clear-coat failure, nicks, scratches and mismatching. There is also one cracked front light lense and some pitting on the chrome wheels. Drive as is, paint it or I have a great idea for an "art car" with the license plate reading "BRK HAUS". Yes, I am open to discussing that treatment for the new owner!
THE INTERIOR
As I hope is articulated in the photos here, the interior of this non-smoker '92 Benz is in quite good VERY original condition overall with no check engine lights and most ALL systems in excellent working order.....including COLD A/C and HOT heated seats! Imperfections inside the car include headliner sections sagging, seam splitting and wear specifically on driver seat, weak stereo reception due to inop antenna.
THE DRIVING EXPERIENCE
This 1992 Benz starts and runs VERY well with excellent torquey acceleration, taut and solid suspension, excellent steering and braking and quiet exhaust. There is a bit of typical transmission thunk but overall this 25 year-old Benz is a still VERY satisfying car to drive!
THE DETAILS AND $$$$
1. This 1992 Benz is being sold with clear and clear California title. IT WILL BE SOLD "AS IS", "WHERE IS". I invite and very much welcome prospective new owners to come see, and inspect this car in person.

Less than a day to go and high bid is $7500. No reserve.

Talbir has not been on this site for quite a while. He is a very interesting gent. I wonder how he has been doing?

I hope he wins the bid. Maybe it would rekindle his interest in this site.

A long time ago Talbir purchased a 119-6.0 engine for rebuild. Not sure if it was featured on 500Eboard or the now defunct 500Ectasy site.
We or at least I have never heard what he ended up doing with it.
Maybe Gerry knows.

I have randomly been looking around for the continuation on that engine rebuild as well, but no info found. The latest I recall is that the ongoing preps like sleeving & porting in the US was completed, and it was shipped over to UK.

Correct. The 6.2L engine was built, completed, and shipped to UK... and I never heard a peep since that time. This work was done in early 2008, btw... over 9 years ago. I don't think there was ever confirmation if the block remained Alusil, or if it received steel sleeves. It was a standard 6L crank but block overbored to 102mm, IIRC.

Arnt, Dave,

My "thanks" switch doesn't work all of the time. Hence this is my acknowledgement.

Anyway, I wonder why Talbir quit our site? Is he active on UK sites?

He appeared to be a very busy man, and I slightly recall from a post somewhere that he couldn't keep up on several forums, but had to choose one. Maybe it was some of the UK based forums.

Looks like the auction ended early. I would like to know why. I was pretty curious to see what happened in the last 5 minutes, but I guess we'll never know.

It looks to me like it sold for $7700... I'm not seeing where it ended early without a sale? Methinks Talbir got a bargain.

:jono:

I was reloading it with 30 minutes remaining and it suddenly said "this item is no longer available". It may have been something wonky with my phone, but I don't think so.

Although, it does now show under "Sold Items". :-/
