Moderator edit: This appears to be a 1991-1992 500E that was facelifted. Changed title from 1994 to 1992 500E, pending VIN verification.

VIN = ???

I thought I share the link one of my friends who works for Mercedes Benz Switzerland shared with me.
Never seen an interior like this before on a 500E or the exterior color. Does anybody know if that's original from the factory?

I couldn't find any green color or special paintwork in the spec that this car is in: w/ telescoping steering column and driver seat memory and w/o automatic climate control and passenger seat memory.

Neat color but I'm guessing a custom job? Seats look in too nice of a condition for 180kkm although it compliments the exterior color quite nicely.

Except for the stainless door sill plates it's nothing left proving that this has ever been a Limited. The main reason for the statementhat is the missing infrared locking system which was standard equipment on the Limited. And I cannot imagine that anybody with a stuffed wallet ordered a new Limited specifically without the IR locking, which was a tasty & modern feature at the time. BTW the memory package (single or dual) was optional on the Limiteds.

Other things; the wheels are regular EVO II not the Diamond cut, but could've been replaced of course. The steering wheel is not period correct for the E500 but for the pre-facelift model, and my gut feeling says it's not the 390 mm Sportline, but regular 400 mm. Pedestrian 124 headlights/lenses as well. I guess this is a restored 500E, can't see the brakes good enough which could have indicated early or late pre-facelift. It's hardly a 106k EURO car, however it looks great for what it is.

@500AMM is correct. This is not, and never was, a Limited. It also appears to be an early production vehicle, likely 1991 or very early 1992, based on the steering wheel and what appear to be original 300mm Brembo front calipers. Someone facelifted this to E500 and is falsely advertising as "Limited, one of 500". Paint and interior are full custom, no green fabric interior was ever offered on any 036. And as noted above, this car has the wrong headlights.

Looks very nice, unusual color combo, but definitely not factory original in any way AND not a Limited.

Exactly! But I don't understand WHY!

:yayo:
I’ve been here now for 27 years but I remember back then the black market was very active in Europe especially Eastern Europe and cloning vin #s was very common. People were always skeptical of giving way specific details about the cars. Also, another reason was that a large number of special cars were reported stolen or did not have the proper legal paperwork. Of course, things have changed, improved and probably no longer an issue but old habits die hard 😊

This is 100% true plus reg. numbers too nowadays due to fears over cloning etc.

Most sellers will provide the VIN if requested in fact, I have only ever had 1 seller refuse which quickly killed that conversation.

To me this color looks like 255 olive green metallic. Very beautiful color. I‘ve thought about color changing my E420 and this color was on top of the list, but i wasn‘t sure how it would work on a W124. Now i have the answer… it looks quite nice.

Also why does it have the plastic steering wheel? I thought leather steering wheels were standard on all 036?

I agree on the color, it may be Olive Green metallic.

I commented that as well in post #5. It has the regular 124 rubber foam based steering wheel, the original 036 st.wheel is the beefier Sportline leather and a tad smaller, 390 mm.

I recall back in early '90s a pretty new R129 was stolen here in Norway and the insurance companies used professional investigators to track down stolen expensive cars. They found the car in an Eastern Europe country, and guess who were using it - the police!! :gor-gor:

Oh sorry i overlooked that part. Such a nice color and what looks to be a well redone interior, and then they put in that steering wheel… it really hurts my eyes

Yes, go figure, that steering wheel is a downgrade on an otherwise great custom job IMO. They have even upgraded to facelift rear seat armrest W/O the strap and fitted the automatic dimming rear view mirror as well. These three things, plus the IR locking system, the late brakes and the automatic belt tensioner, are often omitted on facelift upgrades. Well, brakes and belt tensioner may not be considered as facelift items, but more model/technical upgrades.

:banana1:

As a Malachite owner, this is peculiar. I have purchased mine with customized Steinway black wood, black door cards and black seat inserts. It is not for everyone, but I don't call it "limited" rather its "personal". Eye of the beholder stuff, but it is painted as issued and modded to personal taste... and I liked it. It will be limited to a small buyer pool, especially deep pocket types who want a Porsche(sarcasm):stickpoke:

This color looks very much like Porsche's Oak Green metallic - which has quite a lot of gold fleck.

The interior is nicely done but I couldn't live with it - and I love plaid.
