The time has come to sell my 500E. This is a brief summary. I will be adding more info and pictures over the weekend.

VIN = WDBEA36E3NB800535

Datacard: Mercedes VIN Decoder | Decode Your Mercedes-Benz VIN

Purchased in Sept 2005 and has been in the family since (sold to brother who kept it a couple years and I bought it back). It had approx 163K miles when I purchased it. Currently shows 178486 miles, however the odometer has been inoperable for several years, so I would estimate the actual around 185K miles. Maintenance performed this summer/fall includes plugs, oil and filter, trans fluid and filter, air filters, brake fluid flush, fuel pumps and filter, mirror boots and hood pad. I replaced the Upper and lower engine harnesses in 2006 (can’t find receipt). It had the timing chain replaced and other major maintenance items by the previous owner (have receipts).

It does have some items that need attention:

  • - Electrical drain on fuse 9 circuit
  • - Clearcoat/paint is failing
  • - tandom pump leaks, one rear accumulator is leaking
  • - Oil feed tubes (i have a set of metal tubes I am including)
  • - will need tires - all have sidewall cracks
  • - Rust spot/paint bubble on bottom of drivers door and driver side rear roof to fender trim piece
  • - visor mirror flip up covers loose
  • - cracks in finish on center console
  • - other minor items - will provide in update

I am not sure on price but was thinking $17,500 OBO. This would include spare modules (2 LH used, 2 Base modules (1 new and 1 used, 1 Egas used, ETA used and DM new), body wire harnesses, other 500E specific parts

If that is not reasonable, I was thinking $15,000 OBO without the modules, extra stuff.

The car is located in Huntsville AL and can be test driven, but would not drive long distances due to poor tire condition.

Thank you,
Lee

Interior Pictures. Items for awareness: headliner sagging in some areas, center console finish cracking, driver seat door side bolster seam slightly torn (it was like that when I purchased the car and has not gotten worse), loose visor mirror covers (passenger side is in door pocket)

Pictures of the wheels. Both of the front need some refinishing. The rear wheels don't look too bad but should be refinished if you do the fronts. All center caps need attention.

Thank you for posting the Autocheck report. Their history is not fully accurate. Owner 2 purchased the car in LA (correct per the report) then moved to Nevada (reported as owner 3) and later to Tampa FL (reported as owner 4). I purchased from him in Tampa, which shows up as owner 5 ( but really owner 3). Not sure about the non collision accident/vehicle damage on 4/25/03 as the Carfax I ran at time of purchase was completely clean. I might still have a copy of it and can look. The owner did say he had the car repainted but did not provide any additional details.

Great, Honest Representation!! Still great car and with the reasonable price offered could become a great example with modest investment and not be overpriced for current market. GLWS!!

Hi - is pic 7640 a picture of a fuel emmision line leak? The fittings do not appear to be high pressure hydraulic lines, but look like part of the evaporative emissions system.

My regards, Brian

That is the fuel tank vent valve, part of the tank ventilation / evaporative emissions system. These items should be replaced anyway, along with new rubber hoses and new clamps.

I bet everyone was wondering about the engine and under the hood. I did not think about that until yesterday afternoon. Here are some additional pictures.

Got under the car tonight and found a few spots somewhat hidden by rubberized undercoat. IMG_8213 the spot is located just above the up sweep to the right of the exhaust. In IMG_8212 it is located just above the exhaust bend. Both of these are adjacent to the aft corners of the tunnel blanket that is above the drive shaft. IMG_8203 has a greater level of corrosion with some pitting. It appears that the drain might have gotten blocked in the past and water got in between the undercoat and paint and sat.

A couple other items I noticed (besides the corrosion spots posted above) while under the car tonight. Some oil/wetness on the steering gearbox and wetness on the side of the transmission (where shift shaft, NSS, etc pass thru the transmission body.

I was asked about the electrical drain on fuse 9 issue. It shows up as the lights on 4 switches always staying on (see the attached picture). It will drain the battery in 4 days if it sits. If you drive it daily, it does not pose a problem for using the car. I usually remove the fuse or disconnect the battery when I drive it occasionally. When I originally bought the car, it had incurred some damage to the under dash wiring harness that I had completely repaired and verified. This may likely be a manifestation of that repair having an issue. I acquired a used under dash harness with the intent of changing out the repaired harness. This harness will go with the car.

Congrats on the sale! Any forum member willing to 'fess up and announce new ownership?

:jono: :banana2:

That would be me. New member but long-term 80s/90s Benz fan. The day I decided I wanted a 500E was the day I joined your fine forum!

I'll get thru the holidays before having it picked up and brought to Maryland where it will join a 2003 G500, '86 Cosworth, and an '02 E55 (among others.)

Thanks to Lee for being an exceedingly honest seller and making the process painless.
