1992 Mercedes Benz 500E​

The "Velvet Hammer" or "Wolf in Sheep's clothing" were period nick names for this Porsche designed and built executive super sedan. These rare cars were built in the 959 assembly hall over the course of 18 days. This is a one owner, beautifully maintained, near pristine example in spectacular, original condition throughout including the Brilliant Silver paint and grey leather interior. I purchased this car from the Estate of the 95 year old owner who purchased this car new and maintained it with an open checkbook. Never damaged, clean bottom, original books, copy of the original invoice, original title and maintenance records are with the car. Cold AC, recent service including tires, exhaust and harness update. 87,000 miles, looks like 37,000 miles. $39,500 buys this fine automobile.​

US MB cars through and including model year 1992 had black emissions stickers. 1993 and beyond had yellow stickers.

My 1989 560SEC has a black emissions sticker.

At least early-build 1992's have the black decal, and also will not have the CEL (or Diagnostic Module). I can't remember if late-build 1992's had yellow decals or not.

At least early-build 1992's have the black decal, and also will not have the CEL (or Diagnostic Module). I can't remember if late-build 1992's had yellow decals or not.

Sounds like the change happened mid-production for 1992 USA model year (late 1991, or very early 1992). I found a photo on a For Sale thread, see attached... code 802 indicates USA 1992 model year.

In this market, you may need to get it down to around $30-32K to get it sold, if you are truly motivated to sell it. Unfortunately the E500E market has cooled dramatically during the summer and into the fall, and prices that folks were charging (and getting) late last year and early this year have disappeared. A lot of folks saw these prices going up up and up, and decided to cash in. Now there's a glut of cars on the market, and $40K is in today's market where cars with fewer miles are sitting. Cars pushing 100K miles are, in today's market, still goign to be in the low to mid $30K range.

I think the market is going to stay relatively cool for at least the next 12-18 months.

Of course, you could hang onto it, too, and wait for the market to catch back up to your price.

All buyers should know the typical, time-tested rule of thumb: all E500Es with <100K miles automatically have $5K+ of deferred maintenance, so factor that in when buying.

As an example, are the motor mounts and transmission mount documented as having been replaced on this car? It not, at this mileage, that's a $2K job (parts and labor) right off the bat. Just to replace three hunks of metal and rubber. The 75-100K mark is exactly when these parts need replacing due to age and use that cause collapse.

P.S. Looks like an honest, unmolested example with good bones. It appears to me that the front ashtray is missing the small, round black cigarette lighter. Also looks like the trunk lid stops on both sides could use replacement, as their covering is flaked off. All cheap parts to replace.
